Traditional real-world evidence, such as data from claims and EHRs, doesn’t always provide the insights you need to understand an individual's lived experience outside the clinic walls. Evidation helps you fill in important blanks. Email partner@evidation.com to start the conversation. #rwe #rwd #patientexperience #datagaps #Evidation

~25% of our members with depression have not seen a healthcare provider for their depression, meaning their experiences are missing from traditional EHR/claims RWD. Take a look at what our Lead Health Behavior Research Scientist, Christian J. Cerrada, PhD, had to say about some recent analyses of individuals' experiences with depression. You can hear more from Christian on this topic at our upcoming Lunch & Learn, Leveraging Real-World Data: Insights into Depression from Surveys and Wearables: https://lnkd.in/gC-A8ADW #depression #thoughtleadership #realworlddata #rwd #surveydata #wearabledata #webinar #Evidation
Sexual and gender minority (SGM) groups are often under-represented in mental health research despite greater risk of poorer mental health, such as depression. Two recent analyses illustrate how powerful virtual programs can be to reach people, including SGM groups, who might not otherwise participate in research, due to a lack of awareness, fear of prejudice, or stigma. Findings from these programs demonstrate how we can better understand the impact of depression in hard-to-reach populations. The first was a recent study using data from the US population-based All of Us Research Program. Enrolling nearly 40,000 people belonging to SGM groups, researchers demonstrated that the odds of late-life depression for SGM groups were 1.27 times higher than non-SGM groups. This was determined based on self-reported survey information plus electronic health record (EHR) data collected over a 5-year period. (Link: https://lnkd.in/gi9dsuJv) The second was a recent analysis of longitudinal data from Evidation’s Depression Experience Surveys, where non-binary members experienced depressive symptoms more frequently than other members over a 12-month period. We used self-reported information plus wearable data, which also allowed us to explore potential predictors and outcomes of depression including sleep and activity levels. Depression remains difficult to manage, and this is especially true when high-risk groups experience barriers to research, diagnosis, and treatment. The findings from these analyses are just a starting point and it's encouraging to think about what we could achieve with virtual research programs like these. This could include ensuring equitable access to research that characterizes individuals' unique day-to-day experiences and identifies unmet needs, as well as the design and evaluation of digital interventions. I’m looking forward to sharing more about our work in Evidation’s upcoming Lunch & Learn, Leveraging Real-World Data: Insights into Depression from Surveys and Wearables. 54,000+ of our members shared their depression journey. One thing we learned: people who switch treatments over 12 months experience depressive symptoms more often than those with consistent treatment.
