What happens when good intentions, iteration, and open sourcing come together? We save lives. In the 1990s Fred Jacob and Charles Taflin teamed up to find the right delivery system for chlorinating water in rural areas. Through an iterative process they landed on their 8th model, the "Manual Chlorinator" in 2001. Rather than patenting the model, they decided to draft an operating manual and make it available to everyone. More than a decade later, unbeknownst to them, Evidence Action began assessing the feasibility of scaling in-line chlorination. Through our rigorous six-step Accelerator process various models were tested, the Manual Chlorinator won. Today, Safe Water Now provides 172,000 people with safe water access via this device created more than two decades ago and continues to grow.
