A new Results for Development report reveals several concerning trends in donor funding for high-impact #nutrition interventions, including near-stagnant disbursements between 2020 and 2022. The report, “Tracking aid for the WHA nutrition targets: Progress toward the global nutrition goals between 2015-2022,” examines data on donor disbursements for scaling up the World Health Assembly’s priority nutrition interventions across the eight-year period. In addition to plateauing funding, the latest edition of this report unearthed a roughly 20% gap in the funding needed for the priority nutrition interventions in 2022 alone. That gap, which has accumulated since 2015, reached a staggering $2.1 billion in 2022. Explore the full report and read its other takeaways at the link below. #globalnutrition #nutritionfunding #nutritioninterventions #globalhealth

Last month, R4D hosted a Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) roadmap costing workshop in Addis Ababa to train partners and gather feedback on a new interactive, customizable tool designed to support the costing and scaling of national and sub-national #MMS introduction.    The new tool, which R4D developed in collaboration with kupara consulting, features a user-friendly interface that assists users in estimating the costs of all activities necessary for a successful transition from iron folic acid (IFA) to MMS. It includes a variety of categories such as product procurement, demand generation, advocacy and coordination.   Government partners from Ethiopia, Nigeria and Pakistan, as well as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grantees, attended the workshop, which marked a milestone in the foundation’s efforts to advance maternal and newborn health in these countries — and underscored the importance of equipping partners with practical tools designed to drive sustainable change.   Once finalized, the MMS costing tool will be publicly available on R4D’s website, and we look forward to sharing it with you soon! #maternalhealth #globalhealth #maternalandnewbornhealth #multiplemicronutrientsupplements

What a pleasure to participate in our dynamic Health Systems Strengthening Accelerator Open House last week and to celebrate the program's many achievements!    The Accelerator was co-created in 2018 through a non-traditional @USAID process designed to foster innovative ideas to more effectively strengthen health systems. Now, six years later, I’m feeling very proud of how we not only developed and refined new approaches that will shape how all of us tackle systems change in the future, but how we supported partners in 17 countries to achieve real results.    The world was a very different place in 2018. Commitment to locally led development was still nascent, and we at R4D had only recently adopted our current mission to support change agents around the world who are building strong systems for healthy, educated people.      At the time, we were so excited to be invited to participate in the co-creation exercise that ultimately spawned the Accelerator.  During that process, we worked together with a diverse group of development professionals across USAID and other global partners to think about: - How to more effectively integrate and align health systems components  - How to better support local leaders, their priorities and their own health systems journeys  - How to help them build stronger institutions capable of adaptation and continuous improvement  - How to ensure these innovations resulted in measurable improvements in health outcomes Since then, locally led development has become the mantra in our field, and the need for resilient, adaptive institutions became critically apparent during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Accelerator got a head start on these topics.  We responded in real time as the world shifted, and we can now offer lessons for the future about how to work through country-led processes; how to leverage regional expertise and coach local leaders to put them in the driver’s seat; how to support them to independently translate global evidence and adapt to improve implementation; and how to develop the capacity of in-country institutions for sustained results. Briefly, I’d like to highlight a few notable accomplishments of our country counterparts: Guinea passed a groundbreaking law mandating government payment of community health workers. In Ghana, policymakers and researchers tested and scaled a primary care network model to improve access and quality of care. Asian health systems and policy research institutions collaboratively learned from each other to ultimately help country leaders adapt health systems to address health needs of vulnerable populations.     At the Open House on Wednesday, we acknowledged the many challenges that health systems continue to face. We are eager to leverage lessons learned, build on current progress, and continue our work alongside partners to achieve better #HealthforAll

The Health Systems Strengthening Accelerator Open House is underway at our offices in Washington, D.C. We're thrilled to celebrate the Accelerator's achievements — and continue learning — in today's sessions. A group of speakers, including R4D's Laurel Hatt and Nathan Blanchet, kicked off today's event with a brief overview of the Accelerator's accomplishments. “We’ve seen that systems thinking is very powerful and can accelerate pathways of impact," Blanchet said. "We’ve seen this in integration of rehabilitation services, a new way to ensure safe blood for the mother that needs it to prevent postpartum hemorrhage, in moving from siloed to integrated health programs, in a holistic approach to something as critical as primary health care.” The Health Systems Strengthening Accelerator has: 🌍 Worked in 17 countries, plus provided regional support in Asia 🩺 Addressed significant and complex health challenges such as COVID-19, HIV, immunization, maternal and child health, rehabilitation and mental health 🚪 Found diverse and varied entry points for systems strengthening such as primary care networks, health financing and strategic purchasing, safe blood systems and more You can join today's Open House here: https://bit.ly/4628Rbb #HealthSystems #GlobalHealth #HealthSystemsStrengthening

📢 #ICYMI, yesterday, we launched the #StateCaptureIndex by our Senor Fellow, Daniel Kaufmann, shedding light on changes in state capture within countries over time from one regime to another and advancing understanding on whether increasing levels of state capture in fragile or transition democracies or even in other democratic settings, increase the risk of eventual descent into autocracy. 📑 Read the State Capture Index research article here👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/dJ5vm5gq  📈 Explore the data set here👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/d-_qDJET 💡 If you're curious or as excited as us about how you can put the recommendations from the Index into practice, read this blog! 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/dQfzipd8
