Along the banks of Lake Superior, Essentia Health's St. Mary's Medical Center redefines the patient experience and challenges contemporary #healthcaredesign strategies with bold, innovative, and sustainable solutions. Our design team and partners envisioned a hospital environment that is comfortable, welcoming, and efficient for patients, families, and staff. Its iconic façade pays homage to the rolling fog of the largest lake in the world and provides striking views throughout each of its 19 floors. Its public areas have the engaging warmth of hospitality spaces, and its patient-centric design drives impactful outcomes by consolidating adaptable inpatient rooms, procedure rooms, and flexibly planned outpatient spaces. At nearly a million SF and the length of 2 football fields, this monumental hospital remains a community-based hospital that puts patients and families first. https://lnkd.in/efCAe96x

Last week, Point Park University took an exciting step forward, unveiling its concept for a future Downtown Events Center following the Urban Land Institute Pittsburgh Advisory Services Panel Report, which recommended strategies for the revitalization of downtown Pittsburgh with Point Park University as the driving catalyst. During a panel discussion at the Pittsburgh Playhouse, University President Chris Brussalis, SVP of Institutional Advancement Ted Black, and an expert panel, including EwingCole’s Edgar J. Smith II, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, shared insights on the future drivers of a vibrant downtown along with a discussion of a future proposed community events center to support the University and Pittsburgh’s downtown revitalization. We’re proud of Edgar’s contributions to this transformative vision and look forward to continued collaboration in creating a vibrant Downtown Pittsburgh Community. https://lnkd.in/egRai47t

All of us at EwingCole and Haworth want to thank everyone who took part in Design Thinking Unplugged! We had an incredible time, learning from one another and bringing our whole selves to the design process. Teams assembled to create their own clinical waiting space, designed to cater to the unique needs of each individual. The results were nothing short of fantastic. Congrats to the winners of the mini-competition! And a special thank you to our Healthcare Design Research Specialist, Suzy Genzler, CHID, EDAC, for leading the festivities. We'll see you all again at next year's DesignPhiladelphia Festival!

In honor of Indigenous People's Day, we're proud to showcase the cultural narrative woven throughout St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. This state-of-the-art facility is more than a healthcare space—it’s a tribute to the enduring spirit of the Ojibwa people. Through carefully curated art, cultural symbols, and design elements inspired by the Ojibwa heritage, St. Mary’s connects visitors and patients to the region's rich Native American history. Join us in celebrating Indigenous communities and the powerful ways design can honor their stories. https://lnkd.in/enBpfUS8 #IndigenousPeoplesDay #OjibwaCulture #CulturalHeritage #EwingCole

We're honored to receive the 2024 AIA New Hampshire Chapter Merit Award and Rick + Duffy Monahon Award for Design Excellence in Architectural Restoration and Preservation! The award celebrates our work at United Therapeutics’ Organ Manufacturing Group facility in Manchester, NH, a project that masterfully blends innovation with historic preservation. Originally built in 1897 as a tannery by the Merrimack River, the 98,000 SF facility has been transformed into a state-of-the-art R&D space for 3D-printed lung transplants. Throughout the multi-stage renovation, we honored the building’s industrial roots, keeping its timber ceilings, exposed masonry, and even original mill equipment reimagined as art installations. The design fosters an indoor-outdoor experience with large windows, greenery, and river views, combining industrial charm with a modern workspace. This includes labs, collaborative zones, a gym, wellness room, and a café/town hall area. Huge thanks to our construction partners, Milestone Construction, LLC, civil engineer Fuss & O'Neill, Aubin Woodworking, Inc., Granite State Plumbing & Heating LLC, and Metro Walls for bringing this vision to life! 🔗 Learn more about the project: https://lnkd.in/gmKDkpCP #EwingCole #AIAawards #HistoricPreservation #DesignExcellence #Architecture #ManchesterNH #RDP
