‘Creativity is the most powerful environmental tool there is.’
A gem – among many others – from Mark Shayler at this week’s SUSTAIN event at the NLA.
Such a great morning of inspiring talks about tackling sustainability challenges in the built environment.
And fun to join the Adaptive Re-use panel, alongside the brilliant Colin Macgadie, Sean Nutley and Richard Estrop (and expertly chaired by Mark). Lots of interesting ground covered, including the social and cultural – as well as environmental – value of reimagining existing buildings, and the need to apply an adaptive-reuse mindset to new buildings.

A HUGE thank you to all our guests.
Yesterday, the team at the Exchange Club invited guests responsible for designing, building, engineering, protecting, powering and illuminating buildings to join them for an event entitled SUSTAIN: A practical approach to the built environment, hosted at NLA , the London Centre.
Introducing the event, Exchange Club chair Anna King said there was a high level of understanding of the challenges around climate change and also what needs to be done, adding that “if everybody does something, together we can do it all.”
The event’s chair Mark Shayler, who works with businesses and corporations to reduce their environmental impact and author of You Can’t Make Money From A Dead Planet, further set the tone for the event. He encouraged the assembled audience to take responsibility for reducing environmental impact and increasing social equity, sending out a rallying cry for creative solutions to address this.
