This morning at Opportunity London’s 'Cities Fit for the Future' event, we explored how London’s urban centres are evolving into dynamic, mixed-use hubs—embracing #learning, #leisure, and #placemaking to secure long-term resilience and investment. A huge thank you to Canary Wharf Group for hosting and to John Mulqueen for an insightful keynote on the transformation of #CanaryWharf into a thriving, multi-dimensional district. Chaired by Emily Wright, CREtech, the panel brought together leading voices shaping this future. Anthony Mellalieu, urbanest UK highlighted the role of student accommodation in city centre regeneration, while Tim Ruthven, UCL explored the intersection of academia and urban growth. Michelle McGrath, Shaftesbury Capital PLC shared insights on rethinking high streets and mixed-use placemaking, and Jonathan Langdon, Whitbread discussed the evolving hospitality sector. Sunny Jouhal, Merlin Entertainments rounded out the conversation with a look at how cultural and entertainment-led spaces enhance urban vibrancy. Closing the event, Jace Tyrrell, CEO of #OpportunityLondon, reinforced the importance of investing in learning, leisure, and cultural assets to ensure London’s centres remain vibrant, inclusive, and future-proof. Exciting discussions, brilliant insights, and a compelling look at what’s next for London’s urban evolution. #OpportunityLondon | London & Partners NLA City of London Corporation London Councils Mayor of London HM Government
