In the halls of learning, where knowledge thrives, A principal reigns, and wisdom abides. From morning announcements, to pickup line rides, Hosing down fires not yet devised. Holdin' it down, from dusk till dawn. You keep the lights and all the (right) jams on. You’re in the office, checkin’ off lists, Helpin' out in the classroom, with a calm, cool fizz. Though you were thinkin’ We forgot your month, And we’d post about candy, And trick or treat fun— Mic drop, mad props, You’re the school MC— Got the master plan, laser vision so clear, Leadin' the way, year after year. #NationalPrincipalsMonth #ThankAPrincipal

📖 The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce’s Human Capital Resource Center recently hosted a session on Pointers for Professional Conduct, with dozens in attendance to hear about why this matters for our students, educators, and school communities. 🤔 According to the State Board of Education of Ohio’s Office of Professional Conduct Director Kelly Edwards, there is “considerable opportunity to reduce the incidence of certain offense types, particularly physical altercation/abuse, inappropriate electronic communications issues, and inappropriate behavior—and mitigate these types of conduct.” Kelly shared strategies to vet applicants for hire—as well as current staff. 💬 Districts and schools can also adopt certain policies to empower new educators with the tools they need to handle challenging situations. One area to focus on is communication with students. For current educators, an area of importance is how to handle physical altercations with students. PBIS and CPI are among the most common SBOE-recommended disciplinary measures. ➡️ Here are helpful resources: https://lnkd.in/gTj63bGw Key resources include: 1️ - Access to ABConduct Tip Sheets 2 - Scenarios and facilitator guides aligned with the 9 principles for professional conduct from the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators 👂 We also heard the district perspective on professional conduct. Senior Director of Educator Development Kristin Kaser, Ed.S, eHCLE from Toledo Public Schools shared these strategies for preventing professional misconduct: 1 - Covering various scenarios during orientation that address potential issues and generate a high level of engagement 2 - Conducting virtual trainings for existing employees on board policies and important reminders Diversity Inclusion Manager and Training Specialist Leon Fitzpatrick from TPS reviewed district- and school-level training and associated resources such as: 1 - Trauma Responsiveness 101 2 - LGBT+ Inclusion 3 - Culturally Responsive Pedagogy 4 - Resolving Conflict & De-Escalation 5 - Individual Training & Coaching 👉 What are the big takeaways? A - Include all employee groups in your training and communications to support professional conduct B - Track and use discipline data to develop employee supports C - Develop toolkits of resources for employee groups and individual situations 💬 Read the blog post with video and links to resources: https://lnkd.in/g2WSugcr 📺 Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/gv2buFJz #OhioEd #K12Talent #ProfessionalConduct
