Trauma-informed services are important for folks impacted by the criminal legal system - especially for those who have been incarcerated, a uniquely traumatic experience that can have long-reaching effects. In East Harlem, the Center for Trauma Innovation (CTI) has developed innovative approaches to delivering services that respond to community needs and support healing. As part of its work supported by our partnership with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, Exodus Transitional Community, Inc.'s CTI is working with a research partner to create a space for the "generation, organization, and dissemination” of these trauma-informed practices. Using a community-based participatory research approach, the evaluation team at the Center for Complex Trauma at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai has published findings on the program’s implementation. The evaluation’s collaborative approach also identifies strategies for providers like the CTI to strengthen their participant and staff support, while enhancing their data and evaluation capacity.
