Do you know a Bay Area high school student interested in pursuing a health career? FACES Summer Medical Academy might be for them! Registration is open for our Oakland-based program where students will spend two weeks learning to save lives, respond to emergency situations, develop clinical skills, and learn from a variety of health professionals. Here’s what one student has to say about their experience in at FACES Summer Medical Academy: “You can really expose yourself to how things are done in the medical field while meeting active health professionals. Celebrating National Latino Physician Day - October 1, 2024. Only 6% of physicians are Latino or Latina in the United States, despite the country being made up of 19% Latino. California has an even higher Latino population reaching 40% with further increases projected to 50% by the year 2050. There are significant health care barriers, inequalities, and poorer outcomes in the Latino/Hispanic population. Having Latinos better represented in medicine is necessary for our communities and for the future of medicine in the United States. To address the Latino physician shortage crisis, the mission of National Latino Physician Day is to improve the quality of care for the United States Latino patient population by increasing the number of Latino physicians who provide culturally and linguistically concordant care. FACES is proud of the work that we do support the training, mentorship, and development of the next generation of diverse physicians and health professionals. We celebrate the Latinx physicians and other health professionals across the country and the work they do to improve the health and well-being of our communities. #nationallatinophysicianday #nationallatinaphysicianday #nationallatinxphysicianday
