Since being founded in 2008, Roots Community Health has done so much for the community and a key focus of Roots is health literacy—empowering individuals with the knowledge they need to make informed health decisions! Through medical and behavioral health care, nutrition, wellness, education, and weekly public health updates, we ensure equitable access to health education, by breaking down complex health info into simple terms. We have exciting news! 🌟 Roots Community Health is honored to be named one of the first Gilead Foundation HEAL (Healthcare Education, Access, and Leadership) Initiative grantees, alongside incredible partners like the East Oakland Youth Development Center, Umoja Health, and Samuel Merritt University Together, we are committed to addressing the critical gaps, breaking down barriers to care and improving overall health outcomes by building a healthcare workforce that truly reflects the diverse communities we serve throughout the Bay Area. This partnership will create more opportunities for the underrepresented in San Mateo, San Francisco, and Alameda Counties, helping to shape a more equitable future in healthcare. October is Infant and Pregnancy Loss Awareness Month, a time to remember the little ones we lost too soon. We also take a moment to acknowledge Black mothers, who have a maternal mortality rate more than three times higher than non-Hispanic white women in the U.S. Roots Community Health continues to help eliminate the racial disparities in maternal and infant mortality through our Doula and Women of Wellness Programs, offering services for FREE from 27 weeks pregnant to 1 year postpartum! Truly exciting to see the development of the Young People’s Wellness Center, part of the incredible work led by Roots Community Health 🙌🏽 This space will offer much-needed services for youth and young adults in our community, from mental health support to a cafe and even a barbershop and beauty salon to help them prepare for those key life moments like job interviews. 💼💇🏿♂️💇🏽♀️ The energy and commitment surrounding this project is a reminder of the strength and resilience within East Oakland.
