Faith in Place

We've spent months carefully planning to ensure critical funding reached the right places. We hired staff, built infrastructure, and followed every federal requirement across several contracts. We did so in good faith, fully expecting the government to uphold its commitment, just as we did ours. This story is just one of so many - organizations like ours make federal programs work for people. Countless communities are suffering the consequences of wasted time, lost jobs, and abandoned projects because of these delays. I stand with other nonprofits and farmers across the nation who are experiencing these same unjust consequences as a result. Faith in Place will not back down, and we will continue to stand for environmental justice.

On February 28, Faith in Place's Indiana team attended the Indiana Sustainability and Resilience Conference, hosted by IU's Environmental Resilience Institute. We built connections and attended sessions learning how to advocate and implement solutions for a healthier, more just environment in the Hoosier state. Faith in Place got a shoutout during the plenary roundtable, highlighting our work in uplifting voices of faith at Renewable Energy Day and in working to implement Indiana Solar for All. With hundreds of people there from across the state, this was a really powerful interdisciplinary and intergenerational event. Our CEO and President, Rev. Brian Sauder and some of our faith partners were interviewed in regards to tree grants in Wisconsin. “This grant was designed to not only put in trees, that was the minimal part of the grant. The majority of the grant would be paying students over a course of four years to plant the trees, learn about that, and to take care of the trees. Plus, we were going to invite guests to teach about different environmental issues. So, to have that grant rescinded, it presents a hardship for sure, because we were really excited about it."
