Building Partnerships for Student Success
About us
Founded in 2000, FIS is a legacy organization of the Los Angeles Annenberg Metropolitan Project (LAAMP). The mission of FIS is to involve parents and communities in their children’s education to achieve lifelong success. Beginning with an emphasis on early education and family literacy as a means to ensure student success throughout the educational pipe-line, FIS focuses on the following four strategic priorities: Early Education and Family Literacy, College Awareness and Preparation, School Partnerships, and Community Engagement and Advocacy. Within its strategic areas of focus, FIS offers a continuum of programs from Pre-K to high school enabling students to succeed by strengthening parent capacity and confidence to serve as their child’s first teacher, as advocates for their children’s learning, and as allies of public schools. FIS emphasizes early collaboration between parents and schools as a vital step to maintaining high levels of parental involvement in later years.

🚨 Exciting News! 🚨 I'm thrilled to announce that my colleague, Daniela Hernández, M.Ed., and I will be speaking at the Region 9 Head Start Association Family Engagement Conference: Strong Families, Strong Futures! 🎉 We’re passionate about empowering families and can’t wait to share our insights during our session. In this workshop, we’ll explore Parent Villages, a curriculum inspired by Parent Nation, the New York Times bestseller by Dr. Dana Suskind . From leveraging parent voices to challenging assumptions about parent leadership, our workshop will engage with practical tools, available in both English and Spanish, to inspire parent-led change. 🌟 What to expect: - Insights on how to empower parents as their children's primary brain architects and advocates - How Families In Schools partners with schools and communities to activate groups of parents - Real-world examples of how Parent Villages foster community, forge a collective identity, and inspire parents to fight for societal change. We’re excited to create an inspirational space for everyone to walk away with actionable ways to strengthen their support to families in shaping strong futures! 💪✨ #FamilyEngagement #ParentLeadership #StrongFamilies #HeadStart #RegionIX #ParentPower #ParentAdvocacy Hope to see you there! 👋

As we conclude this year’s #HispanicHeritageMonth, we want to highlight #EarlyLiteracy stories written by Hispanic & Latino authors with Hispanic & Latino characters! All children deserve to have their rich cultural heritage celebrated, and when they see themselves represented by the books they read, students are more likely to be engaged! We invite families with young children to check out all these books and more not just during #HispanicHeritageMonth but all year round!
