Earlier this month, NCFL President and CEO Dr. Felicia Smith attended the ribbon-cutting for Franklin County Regional Jail's newly renovated women’s dormitory, which will house female participants in the jail’s Substance Abuse Program (SAP) and Supporting Others in Active Recovery (SOAR) programs. Speaking about the opportunities the new facility and programs will provide for the women and their families, Dr. Smith shared, “Families all over this country are in need of some additional leadership, some additional investment, and commitment … to help them change their lives.” Learn more here: https://ow.ly/SnMt50TPjo7

Superintendents set the vision for #FamilyEngagement and make important decisions about how to prioritize this work in their strategic plans, budgets, and district infrastructure so that schools and families have the guidance and support they need to team up with one another for better opportunities and outcomes for their students. Decades of research shows that students whose families are engaged are more likely to attend school, avoid discipline problems, achieve higher levels, and graduate. Research also shows that #FamilyEngagement and family-school partnerships are just as essential to student success and school improvement efforts as a rigorous curriculum and effective leaders and teachers. Family Engagement Solutions is a new, free online tool from National PTA and The Johns Hopkins University to help find programs that are proven to strengthen family engagement and family-school partnerships and improve student outcomes.
