Honored to partner with Kaitlin Foster, MA, LMFT-S, of Family and Children’s Services, as she led the Thriving Minds Session at the Zarrow Mental Health Symposium last week. Kaitlin highlighted an innovative outreach approach with a local partner to meet older adults where they are at, which makes behavioral health much more accessible. She spoke to the necessity of having an age-informed lens, including in language used, awareness of BOTH the strengths of aging and unique risks factors (e.g. 4Ds of Suicide Risk Assessment), screening tools, and various modalities such as PEARLS, 4Ms, and Walk with Ease. I was happy to provide the perspective of how ODMHSAS Aging Services, via the multi-stakeholder Behavioral Health Forum on Aging, chaired by Karen Orsi, is collectively working toward the collaborative development of an Age-Informed Standard and System of Care. It’s extremely meaningful to be able to share our vision along with our “why” and “how.” A substantive piece of the work is focused on #ReframingAging and raising awareness that aging is an everybody thing❤ For more information on aging, behavioral health, and the intersection among these, I encourage you to check out the below Age-Informed Training and Resource Page (comments). This page has courses and certificate programs geared toward professionals, classes and checklists geared toward individuals and families, and an array of additional age-informed resources from podcasts and articles to imagery and language guides as well a 988 Section. #LifeCourse #BehavioralHealth #ZarrowMentalHeatlhSymposium #StrenghofAging Below are the first few slides from the presentation + an opening graphic from the Symposium. #AgeInformed post 81: Aging tends to be so much more than what we've been taught. #AgingisLiving
