It all wouldn't have happened Fastly without engineers like Leon Brocard, Fastly Principal Solutions Architect, whose passion for building the best experiences of the web drives him everyday. He shared with us that he recently built a tool on Glitch to highlight the importance of reducing the amount of JavaScript on a page. It builds upon a WebPageTest result and calculates a metric: the number of uncompressed JavaScript bytes per character displayed on the page. In his words, "As part of the Security TAM team, I get to work on many projects, one in particular I am very proud of was the success with securing a major sporting event this year. I had to work with many different customer security teams, I spent a lot of time reviewing Security best practices specific to NGWAF rules, threshold, Edge Rate Limiting and was part of the 'war room' during the event, where I performed Live Event Monitoring looking specifically for ATO, API and malicious Bots to mitigate/block." We chatted with Matthew about his favorite things he's helped make possible here at Fastly: "Launching the AI Accelerator Beta was one of my favorite projects that I’ve worked on at Fastly. It required collaborating with teams across the company to build it on top of the Fastly platform and announce it at our first ever developer event. By making it as simple as changing one line of code, we made it easy for customers to save money and receive faster responses to queries against OpenAI LLM models using semantic caching."
