To quote Layer Cake... 'Life is so f***ing good I can taste it in my spit'... Last night, I had the honor of hosting a highly curated group of media, entertainment, and tech nerds at FBRC.ai's Living Lab. The discussion? Entrepreneurship, through the lens of Nikola Todorovic and Michael Palank. Nikola came to Los Angeles with a dream, just like so many, to make it in Hollywood. But in this town, you need permission to do anything. Nikola had a vision that he could democratize access for storytellers like himself, who came from a small village in Yugoslavia. From 2016 to 2019, he bootstrapped his startup before securing initial funding from Founders Fund and MaC Venture Capital, while he also worked in stealth mode for three more years. He ultimately led his company, Wonder Dynamics to be acquired by Autodesk in May 2024. His journey is truly remarkable! Nikola emphasized the importance of surrounding yourself with smarter people and then knowing what questions to ask. Don't believe your own bullshit. Even if you think something is great, if it isn’t resonating you need to be able to step back and look at it fresh. This intimate discussion reminded me as to why I love building this community. Nothing was rehearsed; it was just a pure conversation between two friends that I happily moderated. Thank you to everyone who joined us on the rooftop for this fireside chat. Last weekend, Twelve Labs hosted an exhilarating hackathon at a stunning beach house in Los Angeles - in partnership with FBRC.ai, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Fireworks AI, and Vast.ai. 🌞 🏖 💻 This event brought together over 50 participants, forming 15 teams, for an intense 24-hour coding marathon. As we are 2 days away from the Multimodal AI in M&E hackathon in LA, let's continue exploring the challenges participants can work on. The 3rd challenge is AI-Powered Sports Press Conference Summarization and Highlight Generation. 🎤 Challenge Description 📃 This challenge is tailored to create post-game recaps, player/coach interview snippets, and shareable social media content. It can be applied to various sports, such as football, basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis, and golf. The goal is to create an AI-powered content creation tool that can: 🎯 1 - Accept a sports press conference video URL and a text prompt describing the desired summary or highlight (e.g., "Generate a 1-minute recap of the key quotes from LeBron James' postgame interview" or "Create a highlight reel of Roger Federer discussing his retirement") 2 - Analyze the video to identify who is speaking and detect key topics/events being discussed 3 - Generate a concise text summary or a short highlight video based on the prompt 4 - Allow users to refine the output by providing additional feedback (e.g., "Include more quotes about the team's defensive performance" or "Focus more on the player's emotions") 5 - Export the final text summary or video highlight in a format suitable for sharing Prize 🏆 A panel of judges, including Brad Boim and Eric Peters from the National Football League (NFL), will evaluate the submissions based on the criteria above. They will provide feedback and select the top projects that demonstrate the most promising applications of AI in automating sports press conference content creation.
