Marlon C. Nichols has ranked 25th in the first-ever Kauffman Fund Returners Index, recognizing top VCs driving global innovation and unicorn success. Congrats, Marlon!
New Report: Introducing the first-ever Kauffman Fund Returners Index! 🚀 At Kauffman Fellows, we believe venture capital empowers entrepreneurs to transform industries across software, biotech, fintech, AI, robotics, and beyond. But how do we measure success in venture capital? While traditional metrics like net MOIC (net-realized multiples of investment capital) are private, we created a proxy to evaluate VC success: the number of startups reaching $1B+ valuations, exits, and their corresponding exit values. 📊 What You’ll Find in the Report: ⚫ Global unicorn activity since 2016, broken down by country and sector. ⚫ An Index of Kauffman Fellows’ Venture Success. Key Insights: ✅ 1 out of 140 VC-backed startups becomes a unicorn. ✅ 1 in 5 unicorns globally have a Kauffman Fellow in the cap table. Shoutout to the thirty Fellows who topped the Kauffman Fund Returners Index: Allen Taylor (Endeavor Catalyst), Koichiro Nakamura (Sozo Ventures), Yinglan Tan (Insignia Venture Partners), Justin Fishner-Wolfson (137 Ventures), Fredrik Cassel (Creandum), Mamoon Hamid (Kleiner Perkins), Shailendra J Singh (Peak XV Partners), Miriam Rivera (Ulu Ventures), Clint Korver (Ulu Ventures), Vinnie Lauria (Golden Gate Ventures), Eric Perez-Grovas (Wollef), Rob Rueckert (Sorenson Capital), Nathan Harroch (Ergeny Investments), Phil Wickham (Sozo Ventures), Patrick S. MaC Venture Capital reposted this
In the last 64 years there have been 74 successful attempts at sending spacecraft or humans to the Moon. And throughout history, only 12 men have walked on the lunar surface, with the last moonwalk happening way back on December 12th, 1972. Over the next ten years there will be 350 missions representing over $150B of invested capital that send spacecraft, landers, rovers, scientific equipment, and humans to the Moon aimed at jumpstarting a new space economy. I've been waiting for over two years to announce our investment into Volta Space Technologies and today is the day they come out of stealth. Volta is creating the first-ever lunar power utility with a focus on global coverage and affordability. The team of Justin Zipkin, Paolo Pino, Paul Damphousse and Guillaume Blanchette are stellar, and perfectly suited to bring this grand vision to reality. As I explain in the post below, there are a multitude of reasons to develop a viable lunar presence, including national security. We are in a new lunar space race with China, and this is a race we must win. If we are to fulfill our destiny of being a multi-planetary species we must first master the Moon, and to master the Moon we will need power. Volta is the critical infrastructure layer needed to power the lunar economy and unlock the heavens for humanity. Congrats to the team on your public debut - to the moon we go!
