In April 2023, 37-year-old Brandon Pace died while in custody at Tipton Correctional Center after being restrained and pepper sprayed by corrections officers, who then denied him medical care as he cried out that he couldn’t breathe and needed help for more than four hours. Last week, Brandon's mother filed a lawsuit against the Missouri Department of Corrections for the wrongful death of her son. FeganScott’s Lynn Ellenberger, one of the attorneys leading the suit, and Brandon’s sister, Bethany Pace, spoke with KRCG 13 about the family's pursuit of justice View the full story from KRCG here: https://lnkd.in/gT57dyjM

More news out of Missouri regarding the Missouri Department of Corrections – five former officers have been charged with the death of inmate Othel Moore, who died of asphyxiation after being pepper sprayed. The criminal charges followed an independent investigation by law enforcement agencies. According to FeganScott attorney Lynn Ellenberger, who has been following the events closely, Mr. Moore’s death is not an isolated incident – other inmates have died in custody after the use of force, such as pepper spray, and an independent investigation is essential to ensure all those involved are held accountable.
