We're excited to be leading the seed round in Moondream - https://moondream.ai/ Moondream is building a platform to provide small, open-source vision language models (VLMs), which will usher in new types of vision apps.
LLMs expand the surface area of imaginable natural language apps. Countless text-based features that simply couldn't have been built pre-LLMs are now baked into products we know and love. The same will happen to the world of computer vision. Small, open-source VLMs will expand the surface area of imaginable vision apps. Moondream is leading this transition. I'm excited to announce Felicis is leading their seed. If you're interested in learning more, reach out to Jay Allen and Vik K. 🌖 + 🍀

Couldn’t be more excited to lead the seed round for Pharos (YC S24) and partner with Felix Brann, Matthew Jones, and Alex Clarke as they bring the power of this new AI paradigm to one of the most important industries: healthcare. Nearly $1 trillion is spent on mundane healthcare administration, and while many areas like scribes and RCM have been well-funded, hospital quality reporting has historically been overlooked despite the immense cost for hospitals, toll on clinicians, and impact on care quality. A single hospital can spend $5m per year extracting this data, only to be able to use it weeks or months after the patient has already been discharged. Pharos leverages AI to automate manual data abstraction from medical records for mandatory reporting and quality improvement, enabling hospitals to identify and resolve process failures in real time. Not only does Pharos drive huge cost savings for hospitals, but also improves patient safety and allows clinicians to focus on delivering the best care. It is tough to imagine a better team to tackle this. Together, they have first hand experience with this problem as practicing physicians, deployed AI in 70+ hospitals, published papers in major medical journals on record summarization using LLMs, and worked on AI + medical research as a PhD at Imperial College London and at Meta’s Reality Labs. Looking forward to working with our friends at Moxxie Ventures (especially Katie Jacobs Stanton who led the Pharos pre-seed and introduced us all!), as well as Y Combinator and General Catalyst. More here from Marina Temkin, CFA at TechCrunch here: https://lnkd.in/gJVrZKK4
CEO at Pharos (YC S24) | Previously VP of AI at J.P. Morgan and Vital | Passionate about patient safety
Matthew, Alex and I are incredibly excited to announce that we’ve raised $5M to kickstart Pharos (YC S24)! We’re building AI to help the teams responsible for patient safety in hospitals - automating complex manual reporting and showing them where and why avoidable harm is happening. Matthew Jones and I have been deploying AI into hospitals for more than five years. We’ve always believed that AI has huge potential to protect patients and free up clinical time, and over the years, it became clear to us that hospital quality teams are best placed to realize that potential. When Alex Clarke joined the team, he helped us understand how hard it is for those teams to get value from data today. As an MD, he saw thousands of clinical hours spent on chart abstraction for reporting and quality improvement. Even with all that work, teams see data for a small subset of their patient population and get that data weeks after patient discharge. Our mission is to unlock the power of data for hospital quality teams, giving them back time and helping them protect patients. Pharos uses AI to pull quality registry variables, process adherence measures and patient safety indicators from structured and unstructured medical data. We automate the reporting they spend so much time on today and let them measure what’s happening live instead of waiting weeks for manual abstraction. We feel so fortunate to have found an amazing group of investors who share that vision: Pharos’ $5M seed round is led by Felicis (Ryan I. and Sundeep Peechu), with participation from Moxxie Ventures (Katie Jacobs Stanton and Alex Roetter), General Catalyst (Reva Nohria and Tamanna Khemani) and angel investors Kevin Stumpf (CTO of Tecton), Andy Pai (CEO of Finbox Inc.), Robin Choy (CEO of HireSweet), Kulveer Taggar (CEO of Zeus Living), Mark Monterastelli (CEO of Learning Health, Inc.) as well as Y Combinator Thanks to Marina Temkin, CFA for her great TechCrunch writeup! Click the link in the comments to read more about Pharos and our mission; and if you know anyone in hospital quality who’s struggling with access to data, please tell them we want to help ❤️🩹

Before AI was called AI, it was called ‘ranking’ and ‘modeling’ at places like Facebook. Conner Sherline Sherline, CEO and Founder of Disco joined Felicis GP Niki Pezeshki to discuss why he’s building a company that helps independent brands increase revenue. We're so excited to see two Felicis companies partner like this. Congrats to Cellino for bringing Chris Gibson, CEO and co-founder of Recursion, onto your board of directors!
Co-Founder/CEO & Director of Recursion: a biotech scaling more like a tech company - Nasdaq:RXRX | Boards: Cellino, BioHive, Salt Lake Tribune | Angel/friend of new deeptech founders
Over the past decade, I've had the privilege of supporting many other founders through both good times and challenges, and it has been incredibly fulfilling 🙌. About 18 months ago, my incredible Board at Recursion encouraged me to consider exploring the idea of joining one public and one private company Board to support my personal journey of impact and growth. 🚀 After meeting so many extraordinary teams and technologies, I waited for a truly special opportunity—and I found it in Cellino! 🎉 Their ultra-scalable, autonomous, high-precision biomanufacturing platform for personalized regenerative medicines is groundbreaking. This technology has the potential to revolutionize the way we deliver life-saving treatments to patients by making complex therapies more accessible and precise than ever before. ⚙️🔬 And now they are onto a next chapter where they expect to build a pipeline on top of their platform, which is something I know enough about to be helpful (I hope)! It also didn't hurt that there are lasers involved ⚡ 😂 I'm excited to join the Cellino Board of Directors and support their mission of transforming healthcare with cutting-edge innovation. It’s an honor to be part of such a forward-thinking company that’s pushing boundaries in biotech and regenerative medicine. Let’s get to work! 💪 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gq3bW5tC #Biotech #Leadership #Innovation #RegenerativeMedicine #FutureForward #PrecisionMedicine

Success with generative AI can only be unlocked by strategically using an organization’s unstructured data. This is giving rise to an emerging unstructured data stack, which consists of three crucial components: 1️⃣ data extraction and ingestion 2️⃣ data processing 3️⃣ data management In this post, I share more context about the solutions in these spaces and how they are used: LlamaIndex Reducto Tensorlake unstructured.io Vectorize Eventual Databricks Polars Anyscale Pandas Onehouse Tabular (now part of Databricks) Chroma Pinecone Supabase Spiral LanceDB MongoDB Stately Neo4j FalkorDB TigerGraph https://lnkd.in/dT74Yj3C
