Within its walls, advanced water treatment technology is fully operational, including four 12-foot diameter filters to ensure the quality of drinking water. The facility also houses 6,650-gallon tanks for both caustic soda and sodium permanganate, vital chemicals used in the treatment process to maintain safety and purity. Honored to be recognized for this innovative infrastructure project, Mayor Jan-Scott Richard shares, "The Apollo Road Corridor is a tribute to the visionaries who saw its potential for connecting Scott to Lafayette and beyond. It’s already driving economic development, improving drainage, and bringing new residential opportunities to our city." Fenstermaker Engineer Manager Anna Doucet, PE, added: "We focused on alleviating congestion and enhancing walkability, while also ensuring long-term safety with elevated roadways and advanced drainage systems, including a 27-foot-wide concrete arch and box culverts." The 2.2-mile, 4-lane boulevard, which connects critical points like Acadiana High School and the local library, also serves as a vital evacuation route, elevated above the Base Flood Elevation to ensure community safety in emergencies. Drone-based LiDAR, conventional topo surveys serve erosion mitigation efforts at Southern University—Fenstermaker Advanced Technologies team, on behalf of Huval & Associates, Inc. and in conjunction with Civil Design & Construction, Inc., stabilized a high-risk situation, protecting campus life and infrastructure. A dangerously eroded ravine required creativity in our survey approach, combining drone-based LiDAR with conventional techniques. This allowed for precision data collection in record time—all while prioritizing crew safety and environmental compliance. The resulting comprehensive dataset laid the groundwork for engineering teams to design solutions with confidence.
