We're so glad you are part of our community! If you are new to Fibershed, allow us to introduce ourselves. 👋 🌿 Fibershed is a nonprofit organization that develops regional fiber systems that build ecosystem and community health. Our work expands opportunities to implement climate-benefiting agriculture, rebuild regional manufacturing, and connect end-users to the source of our fiber through education. We transform the economic systems behind the production of material culture to mitigate climate change, improve health, and contribute to racial and economic equity. 🌿 Throughout the Fibershed community, innovators are reimagining the ways in which clothing is produced, sold, used, and re-used. Sign up for our "Fibershed Forward" email series to be introduced to community members, makers, activists, growers, and leaders who are affecting change and inspiring action in the world of textiles and clothing. Through this short series, you’ll learn how you can get involved and join us in the movement to protect the health of our biosphere. Sign up here: https://buff.ly/3Pu2ztZ.

We develop regional fiber systems that build soil & protect the health of our biosphere.
About us
Fibershed develops regional and regenerative fiber systems on behalf of independent working producers, by expanding opportunities to implement carbon farming, forming catalytic foundations to rebuild regional manufacturing, and through connecting end-users to farms and ranches through public education. We envision the emergence of an international system of regional textile communities that enliven connection and ownership of ‘soil-to-soil’ textile processes. These diverse textile cultures are designed to build soil carbon stocks on the working landscapes on which they depend, while directly enhancing the strength of regional economies. Both fiber and food systems now face a drastically changing climate, and must utilize the best of time-honored knowledge and available science for their long-term ability to thrive.

Climate Beneficial™ Cotton from California 🌿 🌊 🏔 📊 Outcome & Data Driven The Climate Beneficial™ Verification system uses on-farm soil testing, data collection, and farm visits to verify 🌍 regenerative ➕ farming practices and outcomes across climate, soil, biodiversity, & water. 👨🌾 Equity & Farmer Focused Climate Beneficial™ incentivizes and support farmers through premium pricing that cover the cost of practice implementation, advanced purchase commitments, and technical assistance to growers. ⏳ Invested in Whole Ecosystems Climate Beneficial™ is designed to support farmers in their transition to ecologically aligned and soil-regenerating practices through holistic farm planning, technical assistance and peer to peer farmer networking. 🔎 Transparent from the Farm Climate Beneficial™ is built on a connection to each farmʼs place and community. The program traces fibers from the farm and out through the supply chain using a transaction certificate chain of custody model. 🤝 Grounded in Collaboration We build relationships between farmers, brands, researchers, and manufacturers - working to cultivate cross-sector learning, knowledge sharing, and pre-competitive collaboration. Exciting policy news! 🎉 California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed #SB707 (Newman) into law. This groundbreaking law will hold textile producers accountable for the lifecycle of their products, from collection and recycling to reuse, all while addressing environmental and public health concerns. Fibershed has been grateful for the opportunity to contribute for the last three years to the development of this first-of-its-kind textile Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) bill. State-level policy has been an incredible arena for Fibershed and many other supportive collaborators to elevate our vision for a rational, healthy, and equitable fiber future. As we enter the fall season in California, we are preserving some of the joys of summer on our feed. 🌿🌞 One of the most joyful summer chores at the Fibershed Learning Center is harvesting the indigo and transforming it into wet dye paste and dry dye cakes for storage. We are grateful for the volunteers who supported the harvesting and processing of this beautiful natural dye plant. 💙 #Indigo #NaturalDye #FibershedLearningCenter

Unlocking the barriers to decarbonizing cotton 🔓 We’re proud to be a partner of the Unlock Programme, working with The Fashion Pact and 2050.cloud, designed to catalyze the shift to lower climate impact and regenerative farming by: 1. Providing technical support and financial incentives to cotton farmers to apply improved practices and technologies. 2. Quantifying the emissions reductions of these changes. 3. Supporting brands to connect to farmers. 4. Promoting solutions to agricultural decarbonization that are inclusive of the Global South. 📢 Initial results from the Unlock Programme's pilot phase have been announced. Pilot schemes with cotton farmers in the USA and India have demonstrated how cross-industry collaboration can bring down emissions and promote sustainable livelihoods for farmers. 🌱 Learn more here: https://www.unlock.ag/ #ClimateWeekNYC Future Earth Lab.org

Did you know the clothes you wear can be part of the climate solution? When constructed with natural fibers, textiles have the potential to support carbon drawdown from the atmosphere rather than contribute to carbon emissions. 👚🌱 Fibershed’s Climate Beneficial™ verification program and label supports farmers and ranchers in landscape stewardship practices that center their work around building healthy soils while producing high-quality food and fiber. We focus on engaging fiber producers and developing financial and technical support to increase the drawdown of carbon from the atmosphere, enhance biodiversity on our working lands, improve soil health and water-holding capacity, and provide measurable climate benefits. Some of these soil regenerating practices include applying compost to croplands and rangelands, planting hedgerows and windbreaks, restoring riparian zones, cover cropping, reducing tillage, and many more. 🌱 Learn more about Fibershed's Climate Beneficial™ verification program here: https://lnkd.in/gBAJ6U22 🌱 Plus, find California-based Fibershed Producers to support by exploring our Producer Directory: https://lnkd.in/gZKNYywe

Bodega Pastures is a 1,000-acre ranch in “West County” Sonoma, a historic community on traditional Coast Miwok territory. The ranch is home to a sheep flock, guardian donkeys, wildlife, and a few generations of residents, some of whom were born and raised at Bodega Pastures and are now bringing fresh life, talents, perspectives, and skills to the community. The definition of community is broader than Bodega Pastures itself, which creates relationships of mutual benefit and production with local, ethical partners that provide meat and wool products of integrity. Bodega Pastures has a Carbon Farm Plan and has implemented a number of regenerative practices over the years, including rotational grazing, fuel reduction, and composting. Read more about Bodega Pastures, a member of the Northern California Fibershed Producer Network, and how it's training the next generation of land stewards. https://buff.ly/3MNMUns #CarbonFarmPlan #RegenerativeAgriculture #FibershedProducer
