As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we're proud to highlight our award-winning work on the Centerway Arch Bridge rehabilitation. This historic, seven-span bridge, built in the 1920s, connects the Corning Museum of Glass to Historic Market Street and is a cherished community landmark. Few examples of this type of filled spandrel, concrete deck arch bridge still exist. Our team provided comprehensive services, including environmental screening, preliminary engineering, and final design. We conducted a 100% hands-on structural inspection and developed repair alternatives, cost estimates, and final design documents, ensuring the bridge retained its historic character. Our Landscape Architecture studio transformed the bridge deck into a linear urban park with green plantings, pedestrian-scaled seating, viewing areas, and walkways that accommodate emergency vehicles. Unique paving patterns, interpretive signs, and site amenities distinguish contemporary elements from historic features. The redesigned 40 ft. wide bridge deck features a 12 ft. wide multi-use trail, a 5 ft. wide walkway, and green space, creating a park-like setting. Additional enhancements include benches, stamped concrete, a sprinkler system, and other interpretive games. The plaza area at the north end was redesigned to complement the historic Market Street District at the south end. Coordination with SHPO was critical due to the bridge's historical significance and proximity to the historic Market Street district. We also worked with NYSDEC and USACOE to obtain permits for work within the river. This project, a winner of several awards including the APWA National Historic Restoration & Preservation Project of the Year (2014), the ABCD Western NY Chapter Bridge Award (2013), and the International Concrete Repair Institute Merit Award for Historic Preservation (2013), underscores our core purpose: Cultivating our gifts to create a legacy of infrastructure that improves quality of life. Here’s 40 years of making a lasting impact! #40yearsoffisher #fisherassociates #40yearsofservice #40yearanniversary

  • Located on the site of the former Cataract Theater and the Wintergarden in Niagara Falls, NY, this project has transformed an empty parcel into a usable and inviting outdoor facility. The site frames a main approach to downtown Niagara Falls and is at the center of the Old Falls Street Entertainment District. The project includes permanent structural seating as well as a corner stage that defines the edge of the streetscape. The stage provides a new venue for civic events, as well as space for informal gatherings and impromptu performances. Sculptural overhead structures support catenary baffles that provide shade for visitors on stage and those on the lawn area at the center of the site. Peripheral landscaping defines areas for pop-up vendors or additional moveable tables and seating. The site is anchored by an iconic marquee sculpture, which serves as a visual beacon and celebrates the site’s long history as a center for urban entertainment. The marquee was inspired both by the architecture of the Cataract Theater and the textural qualities of nearby Niagara Falls. Integrated lighting defines site elements creating an inviting urban space and a new venue for public programming.  This project showcases the power of landscape architecture in revitalizing urban spaces. We invite you to visit Cataract Commons and experience firsthand how through thoughtful, context sensitive design we create lasting impressions and foster community connections.  #CataractCommons #FisherAssociatesLandscapeArchitecture  James Cavanaugh Photography (Photo 1 & 7) and Old Falls Street USA (Photo 2)
