Happy Earth Day! NHGRI researchers are continuing to sequence complete genomes from all kinds of species, such as hummingbirds, yellowfin tuna and great white sharks to lesser known animals like tire track eels and blunt-snouted clingfish. With complete genomes from many different animals, researchers can study evolution across millions of years! Learning more about a species' genomes and genetic diversity can help us understand its history, like estimating the species' current and historic population sizes. This information can provide insights for conservation and other efforts to save endangered species! Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eY-kKF88

We are excited to introduce a new protocol into our sequencing services to address the challenge of PCR duplicates in genomic data analysis. As our bioinformatics manager Jessica Walsh brilliantly describes, the issue of PCR duplicates poses a significant hurdle in accurate data interpretation. Imagine conducting a survey and finding that a high percentage of submissions are mere copies, skewing your results and hindering insightful conclusions. PCR duplicates, often responsible for a substantial loss of data, can severely impact the integrity of genomic analysis results. Our new protocol maximizes the amount of DNA added to the amplification reaction, increasing the diversity of fragments in the final library, and ensuring the generation of high-quality, informative data sets. We understand that each research project is unique, and that is why we are committed to collaborating with you to tailor our approach based on your specific needs. Whether you require assistance in species identification, enzyme selection, or reference genome analysis, our team is here to support you every step of the way visit www.floragenex.com to get your project started. #dna #data #bioinformatics #radseq #dnasequencing

At Floragenex, we are passionate about the biodiversity that makes our home state of Oregon a truly remarkable place. We were inspired to explore the fascinating world of native fish that call our waters home by Michael Wisth. Today we're highlighting three species hoping to shed light on both our endangered species and their surprising habitats. 1️⃣ Lost River Sucker (Deltistes luxatus): 🌊 The Lost River Sucker resides in the scenic Klamath Basin. These iconic fish, spawning in rivers and migrating to lakes, face challenges like reduced rearing habitat and poor water quality, leading to high mortality. 2️⃣ Lahontan Cutthroat Trout (Oncorhynchus clarkii henshawi): 🏞️ Thought to be extinct, the Lahontan Cutthroat Trout has made an astonishing comeback in Oregon's high-desert waters. According to a 2011 assessment, five of the six native Lahontan cutthroat trout populations in Oregon exist in the Coyote Lakes Basin. Pictured here, the Lahontan trout can grow up to 4 feet long and weigh up to 40lbs! 3️⃣ Borax Lake Chub (Oregonichthys boraxobius): 🌲Oregon is home to the world's only Borax Lake chub population. It was granted emergency protection under the Endangered Species Act in 1980, but was removed from the endangered species list in 2020. Understanding and celebrating our native fish enriches our appreciation for Oregon's natural heritage and underscores the importance of conservation efforts. Help thank Michael for the inspiration by giving him a follow on Instagram at sensitivestuntman.
