We’re thrilled to see the widespread media coverage of HP's major CHIPS Act award, which includes $50 million in federal support to add to an earlier $9.5 million from Oregon. HP will leverage its world-class microfluidics technology to innovate solutions across various life science sectors. Oregon Governor Tina Kotek emphasized that HP’s Corvallis campus “remains one of the company’s leading research posts, contributing to our state’s leadership in technological innovation.” (KGW8, Jamie Parfitt, Pat Dooris, Aug. 27) Gina Raimondo, Secretary of Commerce at U.S. Department of Commerce highlighted that the investment in HP demonstrates how “semiconductor technology is critical to innovation in drug discovery and life science equipment.” (Tech Monitor, Aug. 28) Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology Laurie E. Locascio succinctly put it, “The potential of microfluidics for the life sciences is enormous, and they’re really harnessing it to do great things.” (The Oregonian, Mike Rogoway, Aug. 27, 2024) HP CEO and President Enrique Lores noted, “Microfluidics has the potential to drive revolutionary changes across industries, delivering speed, efficiency, and precision to help pave the way for the next generation of innovation in life sciences and technology.” (Joelle Anselmo, Manufacturing Drive, Aug. 28) This past May, the Oregon Bioscience Association presented Bio in the Valley at HP’s Corvallis campus, focusing on microfluidics. Presenters included Paul Benning from HP, John Rogers from Thermo Fisher Scientific, Tom Weller from Oregon State University, and a panel moderated by Christie Dudenhoefer from HP, with speakers Jenn Amador from nexTC Corporation , Luiz Bertassoni from Oregon Health & Science University, Felix Deku, PhD, from the University of Oregon, and Frank Lau, MD, FACS, from Keliomics.
