What an awesome milestone to see this paper published by Georgetown University and University of California, Davis professors. They estimate the causal effects of pausing the Flourish Fi gamification layer on users to be: - A 20% reduction in their bank app logins, - An 18% drop in their use of free bill payments, and - A 31% decline in the number of on-time loan repayments. We very much believe in this type of collaboration to measure the effectiveness of our platform on key business metrics and the lives of people. 💪
Our article just published in 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: Companies are increasingly gamifying all sorts of products 🎟️🛞🕹️- even banking apps. But what happens when gamification is stopped? Do consumers continue the incentivized behaviors, or do they also stop? In our study—made possible thanks to the invaluable long-term collaboration with Flourish Fi—Mike Palazzolo and I leverage a natural experiment where the gamification module in a bank's app was disabled for 50 days due to a lapse in licensing. We estimate the causal effects of stopping gamification on reward module users to be: - A 20% reduction in their bank app logins, - An 18% drop in their use of free bill payments, and - A 31% decline in the number of on-time loan repayments. These effects are much larger than we expected! But, is there evidence that incentivized behaviors become learned? Somewhat. We find that while bank app logins seem to become somewhat learned over time, transactional behaviors like bill payments and loan repayments still require ongoing incentivization. Gamification isn’t a short-term fix! The full article, "Game Over? Assessing the Impact of Gamification Discontinuation on Mobile Banking Behaviors," can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eDsRK_aE Feel free to message me for a copy or pre-print! #Gamification #DigitalBanking #CustomerBehavior #Research Georgetown University McDonough School of Business University of California, Davis - Graduate School of Management
