Went from struggling through my 40's to thriving in my 50's and beyond! You can too!

About us

Are you struggling with midlife transformation? Searching for a more satisfying life, wanting to get unstuck, or just trying to figure out what you actually want? I’ve been there and found a way through it. Maybe I can help you sort it out. Let’s talk! I'm a boomer. I was 44 and stuck. Stuck in a lifestyle that just wasn’t working. Sure there was no way out. Living on the road, too many hotel nights and airport flights to count. Just “sick and tired of being sick and tired”. Something had to change. Changing jobs again wouldn’t solve the problem; tried that over a dozen times in 15 years. The change had to be within me. My midlife transformation started with better diet and exercise. It evolved into a total lifestyle makeover. Consistent walking became running 10-Ks, half-marathons, then marathons. It was a start! Next came less time on the road, a couple more job changes. At 47, I found the job that fit for me, and I stayed for the next 15 years. I learned to accept discomfort and to be present, patient, and consistent. I challenged myself, and risked failure. I learned to trust my own instincts, embrace my creativity, and believe in myself. Self-belief led to greater work satisfaction, better work/life balance, and making better choices. What’s important to you on your midlife journey? Finding a new job? Bringing new energy or ideas to your current one? Getting off the road? Or maybe just figuring out what you want to be when you grow up. If you’re looking for some help sorting it all out, let’s connect. Your midlife transformation can begin today.

Are you trying to get #unstuck in midlife? Working with a coach who's been there can help. Twenty years ago, I was just stuck in a midlife morass. Spending waaaay too much time working on the road; not taking care of myself and generally just getting sick and tired of being sick and tired. It took some real life consequences, to wake me up and get me to make some changes. I wish I could say "and I owe it all to my coach", but that's not true. I did it the hard way .... by myself. I was too bound up in a giant cocktail of shame, embarrassment, and poor self-esteem to think I deserved to work with a coach. I didn't think I was worth finding a person to tell important things to. If any of that sounds familiar, let's talk! Whether we work together or not, at least you'll find another person that gets it. markw@focusingonresults.com #midlifetransition #personalcoaching

I help midlife business professionals get #unstuck. What does that look like for you?

Are you trying to get your 2025 plans #unstuck? Mine for new ideas by asking yourself "What if?" I'm learning so much from reading Rick Rubin's book "The Creative Act: A Way of Being". It's as applicable for life and business as it is for painting and writing. This excerpt really resonated with me this morning as I continue to both build my own coaching and consulting practice and as I work with #entrepreneurs and #solopreneurs growing their own businesses. "To dismiss an idea because it doesn't work in your mind is to do a disservice to (it). The only way to truly know if any idea works is to test it. And if you're looking for the best ideas, test everything. Ask yourself as many "what if" questions as you can. What if this were the first painting anyone saw in their life? What if I removed every adverb? What if I made the loud parts quiet? Look for different polarities and see how they affect (your work). Perhaps take on the temporary rule that there are no bad ideas. Test them all, even ones that seem underwhelming or unlikely to work." It's so easy to get stuck in thinking there is only one path to success; particularly when you're working on your own. My clients find that working with me as a thought partner helps them get more clarity and open their minds to new ideas. #personalcoach #businesscoach #creativity #rickrubin #salesstrategy Focusing On Results

I help midlife business professionals get #unstuck. What does that look like for you?

Hey sales pros, it’s time to start planning for 2025. Are you ready to get your performance #unstuck? Start by answering these three questions about your customers and prospects. 1) What do you truly know about your prospective customers?   Have you conducted thorough research to identify their needs, pain points, and preferences? Are you aware of their industry trends, challenges, and competitive landscape? Make sure you have a solid foundation of knowledge about your target audience. 2) Are your assumptions about your prospective customers based on data or stereotypes?   Are your assumptions grounded in concrete data, feedback, or research, or are they based on stereotypes or generalizations? Bias and preconceived notions can hinder your ability to connect with customers effectively. Strive for an objective and evidence-based perspective. 3) Are you open to adapting your sales approach to individual customer needs? How willing are you to tailor your sales approach to the unique needs and preferences of each prospective customer? Are you using a one-size-fits-all approach? Do you customize your pitch, communication style, and product recommendations to align with customer requirements? Personalization is often key to successful sales. Hiring a coach experienced in the highs and lows of professional sales can accelerate your action plan for success in 2025. I’m proud to work with my sales and business capture clients to help them develop specific strategies for personal and professional growth. We also talk through campaign strategy, communication issues with clients and “the office”, and brainstorm ideas to grow their business. I help midlife business professionals get #unstuck. What does that look like for you?

Start to get your career journey #unstuck with this five minute writing exercise. If you’re having a hard time figuring out where you want to be tomorrow, start by understanding where you are today. Five minutes of writing can help you understand your strengths and interests. Try writing responses to these prompts daily for a month. • What's 1 thing I'm grateful for? • What's 1 thing I'm excited about? • What's 1 virtue I want to exhibit? • What's 1 thing I'm avoiding? • What's the 1 thing I need to do? At the end of the month, set aside an hour to review what you wrote. You’ll likely see trends and patterns in your answers. Each category will give you a piece of information you can use to figure out where or what you want to do next. The things you’re grateful for will reveal your priorities. The things you’re excited about will reveal your interests. The virtues you want to exhibit will reveal your values. The things you’re avoiding will reveal your dislikes. The things you need to do will reveal your goals and priorities. You'll find more benefit from writing this out than using a keyboard or dictating. The act of writing will reinforce it for you. #artistsway #goalsetting #businesscoach #personalcoach #selfassessment Focusing On Results

I help midlife business professionals get #unstuck. What does that look like for you?

This X post from Zach Pogrob really resonated with me. Like Zach, the authors of "The Power of Full Engagement" tell us that “full engagement requires drawing on four separate, but related sources of energy: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.” Their research and real-world experience show that applying the lesson of energy management from top-tier athletes will make a difference in work performance. I know it did for me! For most of my life, I was not an athlete. I was an overweight “couch slouch” with a less than positive attitude about work. Even after I committed to greater fitness and began running, I still often felt like an imposter. Over time, the changes in my physical fitness transformed my work performance. I had more energy and became more #focused, #connected, #creative, and #productive as both a sales executive and athlete. See yourself as a corporate athlete and Focusing On Results!

I help midlife business professionals get #unstuck. What does that look like for you?

Hey APMP friends, do you want to get your oral presentations #unstuck? Take Marsha Lindquist's advice in her column below. Understanding the difference between a government-facing oral proposal and a typical business presentation takes planning and practice. One thing the evaluators are looking for is how well the team works together. Pick a leader for the presentation, preferably the Program Manager and not the BD person. Make sure that the leader answers the question, and then hands off to the appropriate team member, "Thanks for the question, Marsha is the best person to address that." After the answer, make sure the leader summarizes and asks if the questions is answered completely. "Thanks Marsha, was your question answered or can we offer more information?" If there is another person that want to "add on", the leader makes the decision, and invites the other person to speak. "Before we go on, David, you worked on that part of the project, what would you like to add?" Practice a subtle signal that other team members can use to signal they want to talk, so the leader can make an informed decision on whether to allow it. Finally, the team should ALWAYS add nonverbal support to the person speaking. That means, pay attention, look at the speaker, smile, nod, and assume that the customer is looking at every team member every minute that you're in the presentation room, and in the building. #proposaltips #presentationtips #proposalpro #executivecoaching Focusing On Results
