We are dedicated to eliminating hunger in Alaska by obtaining and providing food to partner agencies statewide.

About us

Food Bank of Alaska partners with the food industry to rescue surplus food from grocery stores, wholesalers, producers, farmers and the fishing industry. We also collect food donations from the community and manage government food programs. This food is distributed statewide to 150 partner food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers and children's programs, ensuring our neighbors in need have access to nourishing meals. Founded in 1979, Food Bank of Alaska was established with the belief that no one should go hungry and a mission to prevent good food from going to waste. Today, 1 in 8 Alaskans, including 1 in 6 children, faces hunger. Your generosity enables us to provide nutritious food to children, families, and seniors who need it most. We welcome volunteers who are eager to make a difference. For corporate donations and event sponsorships, please contact us to learn how you can support our mission to eliminate hunger in Alaska. Together, we can make a lasting impact on our community!

At Food Bank of Alaska, we work with dozens of partners to offer free food distributions and mobile food pantries to help our neighbors who might need a little extra support. Whether it’s a coworker who recently lost their job or a professional just starting out in their career, our services are here for those who need them. Let’s work together to remove the stigma around using food banks and accepting free food. If you know someone in need, share our food distribution schedule, post it in your break rooms or share it on your company Slack channel. #FeedingAlaska

As the cost of living continues to rise, food assistance programs are a lifeline for thousands of Alaskans. This recent Anchorage Daily News article highlights the incredible impact of mobile food pantries like those run by Food Bank of Alaska and partners such as Lutheran Social Services. Families across Anchorage are feeling the pinch, with some like Liliana Fredricks relying on food pantries to stretch their grocery budgets. In 2023 alone, mobile pantries served nearly 50,000 families—an astonishing increase as demand keeps climbing. 📈 Despite these challenges, the community is rallying together to support one another. Volunteers like Deb Wilson not only visit the mobile food pantries themselves but also deliver food to those unable to make it. Her kindness reminds us of the power of community during difficult times. As Food Bank of Alaska’s Chief Philanthropy Officer Daniel A. Bentle said: “The bottom line is that the rate of food insecurity in Alaska continues to rise.” With record low food supplies and increasing need, now is the time to come together. 📰 Learn more about how you can help: https://lnkd.in/gJXtvqHH

Today the Alaska Food Coalition’s Annual Fall Convening brought together advocates from across the state to strategize on key issues impacting food security in Alaska. Their session at the Alaska Anti-Hunger Network Conference focused on state and federal advocacy planning, preparations for the upcoming Juneau advocacy fly-in, and valuable insights into the 2025 political landscape. Together, we built a strong foundation for advocacy efforts in the coming year, ensuring that our collective voice will continue to be heard. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this impactful conversation!
