We were so grateful to work with our Events Interns Anna Haubrich and Samantha Kaplan on our Summer Bash this year! Thank you both for all of your fantastic work.

This summer, I had the privilege of serving as a Summer Event Intern at Foodwise. This was an amazing experience, and I got to see the community that San Francisco truly has. I learned about food accessibility through their education programs, Foodwise Kids and Foodwise Teens, and Market Match. I was amazed by how all the local farms and restaurants came together to put on a successful Summer Bash! I ran the Summer Bash Auction, which earned over $12,000, a record amount, toward Foodwise! I am so grateful for this experience and I loved to see all our hard work pay off. Thank you to Rebecca Crawbuck, Samantha Kaplan, and Jessica Frye for everything you do! I am so honored to be featured in an article about my experience at Foodwise! I hope you check it out! https://lnkd.in/gWkhA5Ae

💬 "What truly inspires me about the work I do is the potential to create lasting change by empowering young people. Seeing students make connections between the food they eat, the land it comes from, and the systems that impact their communities is incredibly motivating." Meet Marcelo Clark, who joined us in May 2024 as Foodwise’s Youth Education Manager, overseeing our #FoodwiseKids and #FoodwiseTeens programs. Foodwise Teens is a paid youth development program where San Francisco Unified School District high school students become change agents for a sustainable, equitable, and nourishing food future. 🔗 Visit foodwise.org or visit the link in our bio to meet Marcelo. #foodwise #education #farmersmarkets #community #ferryplazafarmersmarket #farmersmarket #sffarmersmarket #localfood #eatlocal #lovelocalca #foodeducation #bayareaeats #sffood #ferrybuilding #ferrybuildingsf #youtheducation #sfusd #foodjustice

Partner Spotlight! 🌟 Foodwise is honored to partner with Oakland Bloom and their incredible community of chefs at Foodwise farmers markets through our #BuildingEquity program. 🌺 Oakland Bloom launched in 2015, with a focus on providing training and opportunities for Bay Area immigrant and refugee food entrepreneurs. Almost a decade later, the organization continues to advance economic equity in the food industry, while also reimagining what that industry can be. “A lot of what we do is really about designing different pathways for business ownership for the population we serve, which is poor, working-class, migrant, and BIPOC chefs,” says Claudia Luz Suarez, Program Director for their Open Test Kitchen incubator program and co-founder of Café con Cariño. 🔗 Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/gntHRR_Z 📣 Be sure to try Café con Cariño's cold brew and Quesadilla Salvadoreña and Asukar Palestinian Cuban Fusion's spice blends, hummus, and empanadas at the Oakland Bloom tent at @missionmercado on Thursdays. And stop by Oakland Bloom’s new OTK restaurant at 528 8th Street in Oakland, opening this Saturday, September 7!

"The thing I feel most proud of is my social and customer service skills," says Foodwise Teen Max Hildalgo, who worked at @mcginnisranch at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market this summer. 🍓 "Participating in the fellowship has helped me feel more empowered to participate in my community. It kind of opened my eyes and helped me see that even though I’m just one person I can still make a difference." This summer, 16 high school students worked jobs in the farmers market as part of our #FoodwiseTeens Summer Fellowship program. You may have met some of them, assisting customers at the Foodwise Info Booth, leading summer camp field trips for our #FoodwiseKids program, and supporting local farmers and food makers in the market. While building their resumes, students expanded their food knowledge, grew in leadership and confidence, and felt a sense of belonging and empowerment as active participants in their city and their local food system. Five of our Foodwise Teens shared what they’re most proud of and what they’ll carry with them from working in the farmers market. 🔗 Read their reflections: https://lnkd.in/gqqbNEYP 📣 Support free food education for San Francisco youth!
