Project Drawdown has a great piece on joining the climate fight through your existing job (as opposed to switching jobs for this): "We need to broaden our definition of climate jobs beyond those that are directly related to climate or those that occur within a climate-focused organization. It may be more challenging – and frankly, seem less exciting – to evolve the role you already have rather than to find a sparkly position at a new organization. But turning your current job into a climate job has the potential for far greater impact." https://lnkd.in/gY_waC2j

Building a movement at the intersection of food and climate
About us
This is for you if you care deeply about the intersection of food systems and the climate crisis. This intersection is one of the most critical yet underserved areas of the climate fight (current estimates suggest that we can do everything else right on climate and still lose the fight if we don’t sufficiently decarbonize food). We are currently running events in the San Francisco Bay Area, where we were founded, as well as Los Angeles, New York, and Boston. To stay in the loop follow this page. We're contemplating growing to other cities. Our model is to recruit ambassadors to run these. Reach out to us via this page to apply to be an ambassador.

Building on our successful meetups in the San Francisco Bay, Los Angeles, and New York, we are now starting our FoodxClimate Boston chapter. Our Boston ambassador, Sezin Yigit, PhD, has already had 40 amazing people sign up for this first event, which takes place on Thursday, November 14 at 6 PM. Dear community: we are gathering amazing people working at the intersection of food and climate, so if you know someone who fits this description, please share this with them. If this is you and you are in the greater Boston area, please come and get in on the ground floor of this. See who else is coming and register here: https://lu.ma/fbab5n4h

Thank you, Magi, for all your work to create a less harmful and more resilient food system. Leaders like you speaking up and from the heart is so vital because we need all the hope we can get in this struggle 💚
We don’t need AI to survive as a species; we need a livable planet with access to safe and nutritious foods, clean water, and a thriving natural ecosystem. Despite disillusionment about how food and biological technologies don’t scale like software, innovation in this field is not only necessary but inevitable to ensure our survival. Our food systems contribute to one-third of greenhouse gas emissions and are the leading cause of deforestation and biodiversity collapse around the world. How many unprecedented wildfires, hurricanes, or heatwaves must we endure to wake up? The time to act is now. There is a huge opportunity to be part of the solution. Instead of declaring food tech dead, we should learn from the lessons of the past and build a stronger ecosystem—one based on scalable unit economics, appropriate time for de-risking science, and a movement that isn’t divided against itself. I am very grateful for Henrik Bennetsen and his efforts to bring the community together through FoodxClimate. There is power in unity, in rowing in the same direction, and not bringing down others who are on the same mission. It’s easy to write something off because it’s hard; it’s much harder to stay in the fight and work through challenges and setbacks. To everyone still fighting for a better future for our planet through food innovation, thank you.

We hosted our New York Climate Week event at C16 Biosciences. We are fans of their work to create a climate friendly alternative to the current destructive way we produce palm oil. Here is a video of their COO and co-founder David Heller telling us why he is working at the intersection of food and climate.

12% of Americans eat 50% of the beef is truly a staggering statistic shared by Caroline Cotto at our recent event at New York Climate Week. Also Caroline runs NECTAR who conducts sensory analysis to help build a better food system by bringing an evidence-base to taste. We got some much needed hope from their recent report on how plant-rich (“blended”) meats taste and why they matter: https://lnkd.in/gvHvkaSY #NYClimateWeek
