Thirty Forsyth County residents are the latest graduates of Citizens’ Academy, a summer-long program that provides a look into the inner workings of our County government. Over eight classes from May to September, participants toured various facilities and spoke with local staff and leadership about County functions that serve the community. The Board of Commissioners recognized Tim Allen for his service as Assistant Director of Engineering following his announcement of retirement. Allen has served as Assistant Director of Engineering since 1995. During his 29 years of service, Allen has opened a new recycling center on Old Atlanta Road, developed many policies and ordinances, and managed transportation improvement projects in SPLOST programs 3 through 8. To enhance the visual appeal of parks and facilities, Forsyth County Parks & Recreation applied for a grant earlier this year from the Forsyth County Arts Alliance to install three murals, one at Central Park and two along the Big Creek Greenway. The first mural is located at Central Park Recreation Center and was painted by local artist Lindsey Engbrecht. Forsyth County government offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, for Labor Day. This includes County offices, the Pet Resource Center, the three recreation centers and the three recycling convenience centers. Happy Labor Day weekend, and stay safe, Forsyth!

Forsyth County was recently designated a BioReady Bronze Community by non-profit Georgia Bio, affirming the County’s position as an emerging hub for the life sciences sector. To achieve a bronze-level designation, Forsyth County has set up a direct “pipeline” process that allows bio-related industries to connect with County and Chamber staff for future growth opportunities. Capable staff, robust water & sewer system, and biotech-friendly zoning and permitting procedures have made the community an attractive place for the growing biotech industry to thrive.
