We didn't let the rain stop us! An extra special thank you to Delta Air Lines for sponsoring October's Forterra Friday and our Evergreen Restoration Program. And for sharing your amazing volunteers at our Patterson Creek Preserve to tackle invasive blackberry. Together, we removed 35 square feet of the invasive species. We smiled at the native salmonberry plants that we uncovered. We also left smarter — learning about the history of the Himalayan blackberry, trailing blackberry, salmonberry and thistle, and how to make a compost raft.

Filling out your ballot this weekend? So many reasons to vote "NO" on Initiative 2117 — the ballot measure that will overturn Washington's landmark Climate Commitment Act if approved. Forterra relies on hundreds of thousands of dollars from this climate law funding. Today's transformative land projects will come to a halt if I-2117 passes. Grants we are in line to receive for new projects will evaporate. Protect Land for Good and Vote "NO" on I-2117.

Forterra has purchased 30 acres of timber rights at Hancock Creek, filling a critical conservation gap in the Central Cascades. Mature and irreplaceable old growth forest will now be permanently protected from logging. The northern spotted owl and marbled murrelet are among the many wildlife species that will benefit from this habitat protection. This was the final transaction of our 10-year Forterra Cugini Family Old Growth Initiative. We are grateful for our long partnership with the Cugini family. Press release >> https://lnkd.in/grbbdKJQ

Place is where relationships happen. With each other in community. And with nature. We are grateful for our new relationship with classical violinist and storyteller Swil Kanim, Lummi Nation. Arrowhead in Kenmore has long been a conservation priority of Forterra NW as one of the last unprotected parcels of wildlife habitat on Lake Washington's northeastern shoreline. Good news! We successfully facilitated the purchase of this rare undeveloped stretch of land for the expansion of Saint Edward State Park. The area is home to a surprising variety of animals — including bobcat, flying squirrel, long-tailed weasel and river otter. #landforgood

The Tree. If we had to capture our Pacific NW in a single image, it would be the Tree. Imagine our region without them. Cedars that have stood for a thousand years and maples for 400 – all forests have stories to tell and have witnessed how we have engaged with them. Swil Kanim has gathered these stories to inspire his audience as he delivers an engaging performance that heightens our connection to our tree-filled landscapes. We invite you to hear him in his own words and music, too. Check out "The Presence of Honor," one of Swil Kamin's TEDx talks >>> https://lnkd.in/gE7dvpaa Join us at the beautiful Intellectual House with Swil Kanim (Lummi Nation) on Friday, Sept. 27. Peaceful Forest Meditation begins with walking and sitting in silence and letting nature, with its smells, sounds and depth, take over as other parts of our lives become quiet. Join us from 10 am to 2 pm, on Saturday, September 7 at Morse Wildlife Preserve for a Buddhist Forest Meditation Walk with Ayya Suvijjana and Ayya Niyyanika. The walk is one of several upcoming Forterra Nature Discovery™ free events. These Buddhist scholars will guide those new to meditation while others with some experience will be free to practice. Morse Wildlife Preserve is an easy 1.5 mile walk that starts with natural prairie and transitions to a boardwalk before rising gently to a forested woodland. It is full of bird and animal life year-round. Bring a packed lunch (and a little to share, as is Buddhist tradition) and some packable cushion to sit on the ground. Register for this free walk >>> https://lnkd.in/gZf3uSec
