Earlier this week, we took 50+ founders on a 3-day retreat to create space for founders to share challenges openly, learn from each other, and recharge in nature. 🏕️ Beyond the inspiring speakers and sporting events, Forum Fireside Camp 2024 was all about building community, fostering deep conversations and making the founder journey feel a little bit less isolating. We learned from each other and from inspiring speakers like Julio G. Alvarez, Kathleen Roberge, Peter Walker, deepening connections that matter. We believe in building relationships with founders that go beyond just business, and events like this prove that the power of community cannot be overstated. Special shout-out to our head camp counsellor, Daniela Pico and incredible sponsors Carta and Mercury 💜

We’re excited to reveal the winner of the #Chicago Founder-First Award, recognizing investors who go beyond just writing checks—they become true partners to founders, offering unwavering support, mentorship, and strategic guidance. This award celebrates investors who prioritize the long-term success of their portfolio companies and act as dedicated champions for founders at every step of their entrepreneurial journey. Congratulations to Desiree Vargas Wrigley of Velocity Catalyst Fund & P33 Chicago! 🚀 Desiree has been a tireless champion for underrepresented founders in Chicago, leveraging her network, insights, and passion to empower entrepreneurs and help them navigate the complex startup ecosystem. Through her work with Velocity Catalyst and P33, Desiree has become a cornerstone of our community, fostering inclusivity, growth, and the next generation of trailblazing founders. We also want to celebrate the incredible contributions of our finalists, all of whom have made a significant impact on Chicago's entrepreneurial landscape: 🌟 Jyothi Vallurupalli at Lightbank 🌟Collin Bhojwani at Allianz 🌟Rebecca Sholiton Kahnweiler at LongJump 💡 Why Founder-First Investors Matter 💡 Having a supportive investor on your cap table can make all the difference. The right investor doesn’t just bring capital—they bring strategic value, industry insights, and a network that can propel a startup to new heights. Founder-First investors are there for the tough times and the wins, connecting founders to opportunities that might have otherwise been out of reach. They are the unsung heroes who believe in the long-term success of the companies they back and, most importantly, the people behind them. 👉 Check out the rest of the finalists and stay tuned for more information about our celebration event! https://lnkd.in/ezXuGnpx

Forum Ventures reposted this
I recently had one of my monthly brainstorming sessions with a former Forum Ventures colleague and peer Faye Almeshaan, where we discussed the future of work and AI. Faye’s experience as an early hire in startups—wearing all the hats from ops and finance to legal and hiring—makes her a true ultra-generalist. These first hires are critical for startups, helping them run lean and stretch their runway by handling multiple functions before specialized teams are brought in. With AI agents now on the rise—LLM-powered software that can reason and execute entire workflows without human oversight—startups might be able to delay those hires even further. These agents can handle specialized tasks like marketing, sales outreach, accounts receivable, and even lighter coding, leaving ultra-generalists to manage teams of both humans and AI, a new skillset that is going to make the generalist the most in demand position in tech. In our recent article for SmartBrief, we dive into how these AI agents will change the startup org, workflows, and even our concept of expertise. If you're curious about the future of AI in the workplace, give it a read and feel free to share your thoughts or questions. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gtvCxaX9 P.S. If you feel out of depth when it comes to AI, this is clear and easy-to-understand for anyone in the working world exploring AI. #ArtificialIntelligence #AIAgents #UltraGeneralists #FutureOfWork #EmergingTech #Innovation
