About us
We’re specialists in pre-seed and seed. The startups we back go far. Best-in-class founders do not come around every day. When they do, we jump at the opportunity to work together. Our approach is to work with just a small number of best-in-class founders so we can dig in and go deep.

So proud of Mar Hershenson and the other fantastic investors on this list. 💪🏼
A recent survey reveals that female-founded AI startups receive less than 3% of venture capital funding, highlighting a significant challenge in the tech landscape. However, in 2024, women venture capitalists are stepping up to change this narrative by actively investing in AI startups focused on solving pressing global issues. Here are 10 inspiring women VCs transforming the AI landscape across the USA: Deena Shakir Ann Miura-Ko Sarah Guo Aileen Lee Renata Quintini Mar Hershenson Shruti Gandhi Peggy Johnson Stephanie Zhan Anna Barber Read more here: https://lnkd.in/guFKQSxF

Last night at our Pear Female Founder Circle AI weekly, we interviewed May Habib, CEO of Writer who is a force of nature and shared some many incredible lessons on entrepreneurship to us. May predicts most enterprise work will be done by AI within 3-4 years, creating massive opportunities for new AI startups. We're honored to have her spend time with female technical founders! We're excited about more women in AI and the future of massive enterprise AI development.

We're so thrilled for Kristen Fortney, Eric Morgen, and the entire BioAge team for their debut on the public market yesterday. We wrote the first check into BioAge in 2015 and were honored to support them on every step of their journey. Read more from Mar Hershenson!
Huge congratulations to Kristen Fortney, Eric Morgen, and the entire BioAge Labs team on their IPO yesterday! BioAge Labs is pushing boundaries in the drug development space by targeting the biology of aging to develop treatments for metabolic diseases like obesity. Their lead product has the potential to revolutionize how we treat obesity when combined with GLP-1 drugs. At Pear VC, we've been with BioAge since 2015, backing them from their initial seed round to this week's public debut. Watching Kristen’s journey from a postdoc at Stanford to leading a publicly traded company has been nothing short of inspiring. Her leadership and vision have been key to BioAge's success, and today is a testament to her resilience and determination. This IPO is particularly special for us at Pear, as Kristen becomes the first female founder-CEO in our portfolio to go public. In the 200+ year history of NASDAQ, only 41 companies were founded and led by women. Today, we celebrate number 42!

We’re excited to share our new Emerging Manager in Residence program. Thank you Marina Temkin, CFA for the great write up!
I'm proud and very excited to announce the Pear VC Emerging Manager in Residence Program. Emerging stage investing is more akin to company building than a finance job. And emerging managers, particularly those coming from an operating background, are a critical part of the early stage ecosystem. When I was talking to Pejman and Mar about joining Pear, they shared that same excitement about supporting emerging managers in a unique way. We've chosen 4 incredible fund managers representing 3 funds for our inaugural Emerging Managers in Residence. Sarah Smith is the GP and founder of The Sarah Smith fund. She has a superpower of working with founders to help them grow in their roles (founder led companies have 4-5x the returns in public markets). John Gleeson is the GP and founder of Success Venture Partners. He leads the largest customer success meetup in the world and is expert at helping founders with founder-led customer success. Adarsh Bhatt and David Ongchoco are the cofounders and GPs at Comma Capital. They've built the strongest community of Gen-Z and Millennial engineers and startup founders across SF & NYC. We're thrilled to partner with these emerging managers to bring them closer to the Pear ecosystem. We will be investing in their funds, providing office space in our SF Studio and Menlo Park offices, sharing deals, hosting events, and partnering to support the best early stage founders. Thanks to TechCrunch for writing about this first of it's kind program: https://lnkd.in/gnwtiwXA

One thing we consistently hear from our PearX founders is how much they accomplish during the 14-week program. Take Michael Ding, Founder and CEO of Bobyard, from our PearX S23 cohort. After Demo Day, Bobyard secured a $3.5M round from Primary Venture Partners! Want to follow in Michael’s footsteps? PearX W25 applications close on October 1st, and the cohort kicks off in January. Don’t miss your chance! Read more about Michael’s journey with PearX and how he and others made it happen here: https://lnkd.in/g7XbeNqU

PearX is our accelerator for early-stage companies. Each year, we receive thousands of applications for just 20 exclusive spots. While we could expand our cohort size, we choose to keep it small in order to dive deep with every PearX company. Over a 14-week program, we help founders sharpen their vision and strategy, leading up to our highly anticipated Demo Day, where these startups present to thousands of investors. The results speak for themselves: 90%+ of PearX companies go on to raise successful rounds from top-tier investors after Demo Day. Here are just a few recent examples of PearX alumni who secured major funding: - WindBorne Systems (S19): $15M Series A from Khosla Ventures - Federato (S20): $25M Series B from Caffeinated Capital and Emergence - Valar Labs (S21): $22M Series A from a16z and DCVC - Learn to Win(S19): $30M Series A from The Westly Group & Norwest - Seven Starling (S20): $10.9M Series A from RH Capital & Emerson Collective Our PearX S24 virtual Demo Day is coming up on Tuesday, October 8th. It’s always exciting to see founders debut their startups to the world for the first time. This batch is AI-focused, with founders working on everything from product search and price tracking to cloud computing for scientists—and more. Are you interested in getting an early look at the PearX S24 companies? Drop a comment below, and we’ll reach out!
