✊🏾 Labor is at the heart of FreeCap Financial, Inc ✊🏾 We’re committed to breaking the cycle of mass incarceration -- where workers contribute billions in labor behind bars, only to struggle to find jobs after release. With unemployment as a leading cause of recidivism, this cycle continues. 🔄 This Labor Day, I want to recognize the contributions of this essential workforce: ➤ $2 billion worth of goods produced annually by incarcerated workers  ➤ $9 billion worth of prison labor that offsets operating and maintenance costs of correctional facilities ➤ 1 million (and counting!) justice-involved small business owners contributing to our economy  🚀 Not to mention, that reducing employment barriers for formerly incarcerated individuals could boost the U.S. GDP by $78 billion to $87 billion annually through increased earnings, consumer spending, and productivity. By not investing in this vital labor force, we’re holding back individual potential and limiting our collective growth. It costs as much to send a person to prison as it does to send them to college. 🤯 This isn’t just a shocking reality – it’s a reflection of where our priorities lie. Instead of investing in people, we’re pouring billions into a system that profits off their incarceration. Imagine if we redirected those resources and tax dollars to create real opportunities, like: → Education: Fund scholarships and support programs that make higher education accessible to everyone. → Community Building: Invest in local initiatives that strengthen neighborhoods and provide pathways to success. → Job Creation: Develop training and employment opportunities that offer sustainable careers. Companies profiting off of prison labor need to be held accountable. And those investing *in* people deserve to be acknowledged.
