We're thrilled to share a new article co-authored by our President, Cheryl Dorsey, Shivani Garg Patel, Chief Strategy Officer at Skoll Foundation. The article, titled "From Margin to Mainstream: Social Innovation for Systems Change," published in the Stanford Social Innovation Review, explores how social innovation can be a driving force for addressing global challenges. In a time of global crisis—from eroding trust in institutions to climate disasters and deepening inequality—our future depends on reimagining how we meet and overcome these challenges. Social innovation has the power to do just that—but too often, it’s been treated as a niche approach rather than a driving force for change. It’s time to change that. The article explores three key opportunities to mainstream social innovation: 1️⃣ Crafting compelling narratives that elevate the impact of social innovation 2️⃣ Mobilizing flexible, collaborative funding to unlock transformative potential 3️⃣ Fueling the efforts of system orchestrators, who build cross-sector alliances At Echoing Green, we believe that embedding social innovation at the core of our collective efforts is the key to driving systemic change. We are deeply saddened by the tragic and senseless loss of Imam Muhsin Hendricks - a remarkable leader, advocate, and human being. Muhsin, known as the world's first openly gay imam, was killed in South Africa on February 15th by masked gunmen. Muhsin dedicated his life to creating inclusive, welcoming faith communities for all. His passion, compassion, and unwavering commitment to justice and equality made him an inspiration and beacon of hope for so many.
