  • Meet Julie*, a recent Fresh Start success story. A single mother of four children, Julie came to Fresh Start seeking support. Her marriage had become violent and she realized she needed to make a change to protect herself and her children. Turning to government aid programs and nonprofit support, Julie tried to keep the lives' of her children as stable as possible. For Julie, the help was invaluable, but it also wasn't where she wanted to stay. "For someone like me in Section 8 housing, on food stamps and Medicaid—someone women might not have the motivation or the ability to change, or see more than the funding the government gave us," says Julie. "I'm glad that I can look beyond where we are now and see that I want to be different. There will be a day that I'm off of these government programs." Resolute in the decision to change her life, Julie eventually enrolled in Fresh Start's cable harness wiring career training program. “One of the turning points was when I got the email from Fresh Start team member, Trey, saying that I was accepted into the cable harness program," Julie reflects, "I kept telling myself that I need this.” The cable harness wiring bootcamp gave Julie the opportunity to earn an industry-recognized certificate in less than two weeks. She also received help with her resume and interview skills, as well as peer support from her Fresh Start cohort. "These women motivated me to step up, to change and do things better," says Julie, "...it's a sisterhood." Today, we're thrilled to share that Julie has landed a full-time role as an Assembler at Honeywell! Her story is a powerful reminder that transformation is possible with the right support, determination, and the willingness to take the first step. • From surviving to THRIVING! ✨  We're excited to share an article featured in The Arizona Republic by Daniel Gonzalez that highlights our vital work: empowering women through education & career pathways. The piece features two Fresh Start women, Melissa Semper and Kimberly Rush. Both have transformed their careers from low-wage, dead-end jobs to thriving positions in the technology & semiconductor industries through Fresh Start's career training programs, each securing higher pay, benefits, and advancement opportunities in fields traditionally dominated by men. Their journey to self-sufficiency showcases the transformative power of Fresh Start's programs.  Melissa, a single mother & domestic violence survivor, completed a seven-month welding program and is now thriving in a five-year apprenticeship as a journeyman pipefitter/welder. She shares that her life is now filled with joy and purpose. Kimberly, after 23 years in the food industry, attended Fresh Start’s Career Jumpstart event, enrolled in cable harness wiring training in partnership with Mesa Community College and secured a job with PacSi EMC. Over a year later, she continues to thrive in her new career. “Fresh Start is really demonstrating what we’re trying to build...when we talk about building pathways to opportunity for everybody,” says Acting Secretary of Labor, Julie Su, during a recent visit to Fresh Start.  This initiative is supported by the Women in Apprenticeship & Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant from the U.S. Department of Labor and awarded in partnership with UnidosUS (@WeAreUnidosUS). We're so grateful to share our work across the Valley and to inspire more women to achieve their potential. Special thanks to Daniel Gonzales and The Arizona Republic | azcentral.com | La Voz for the wonderful article! Read the full story on our website: https://hubs.la/Q02VTrmp0

  • We at Fresh Start are incredibly grateful for all of the amazing folks who helped make our recent Family Law Community Info Session a huge success! To all of the attendees and to the volunteer legal professionals who shared their insight, THANK YOU! ✨ 💼 This past Saturday, Fresh Start hosted a community event that featured a dynamic panel of legal experts who discussed common family law topics and took audience questions. They shared common practices, provided valuable insights, and offered guidance on navigating the legal system. The family law legal system can be complex, overwhelming, and costly—especially for women navigating it for the first time. We are so thankful for the legal professionals at the State Bar of Arizona who volunteered their time and all the women who participated. 💜 Do you or someone you know need family law support?
