Happy Manufacturing Week from all of us at Friedland Industries! We hosted over 4 tons (see scale indicator) of high school students from the Wilson Talent Center's welding program for a tour of our facility yesterday. It's great seeing such a large group of young adults interested in the trades, and we'll be here ready to help with any recycling needs they may face in their future careers!

It's officially day two of running both balers simultaneously, and boy are we running them. The idea of adding a second baler has been on our minds for years, and after weeks of planning and installation, we are kicking out the bales! Not only does the addition of the second baler free up valuable non-ferrous baling time, it also gives us the capacity to continually grow our fiber processing capabilities to continually exceed our customers' expectations for years to come. So with that, cheers and happy 4th of July from all of us at Friedland Industries!

Document Destruction Month 2024 is fast approaching! This event has grown so much over the past few years, and we hope this year will be the biggest one yet! So what is it? DDM started as a one day event the Saturday after taxes are due in April. Back then, we would have customers drive their vehicle right into our facility, and our staff would assist them in throwing their documents directly onto our shredder line, where they could blissfully, and sometimes aggressively, watch all of their old dusty documents they've been forced to hang onto for years vanish into an unrecognisable bale. We've seen everything from customers with a small bag of old tax forms, to U-Haul trailers loaded down with hundreds of boxes. They get piece of mind witnessing their sensitive documents get destroyed, we get paper to bale and sell, and a tree can take a sigh of relief knowing paper commodities are recycled. Fast-forward to today. Expansions on our plant have made it impossible to have the drive through service, but we have adapted! By splitting the event to every Wednesday in April during normal business hours, not only have we alleviated the long lines we use to experience (for the most part), but also stress on our employees and machinery. We still allow customers to walk into the plant to witness their documents being destroyed on either of our shredders, and have a full crew ready and willing to help folks unload their vehicles and get their documents inside to the shredders. That's not the best part. In recent years, DDM has teamed up with ScrapFest in supporting local charities in our area! The same charity we help sponsor with the sale of the sculptures and activities from ScrapFest, we also sponsor during DDM. We have been honored to assist some great local organizations in the past few years, and this year we are sponsoring Lansing SAVE. This organization helps local kids create and establish savings accounts to put towards higher education, and helps create a foundation for financial wellbeing at a young age. See the link below for more information! How do we do this? By asking for a small, $5 minimum donation for UNLIMITED shredding per trip, truly as much as you can haul into us. Of course people can donate more if they'd like, but we ask for at least $5, which is a pretty good bargain! That's Document Destruction Month! Pretty neat eh?
