When reflecting on my success in the civilian sector, particularly with Frontline Mobile Health, I attribute much of it to my time spent in the military. During my 13 years with the United States Army, I held various roles, including Civil Affairs Team Medic, HazMat/ US&R (Urban Search and Rescue) Technician for a Nuclear Response Task Force, and TCCC/CLS Instructor (Tactical Combat Casualty Care/ Combat Life Saver) for deploying units. I even spent a year as a glorified chauffeur (Brigade Commander’s Driver). It is from assignments such as those listed above that have made traits such as discipline, time management, accountability and attention to detail inherent in most everything I do. Whether administering the CPET as an Exercise Physiologist or planning/ templating operations as the Deputy G-3, I feel the military has always given me a significant advantage. Along the same lines, Frontline is a very dynamic and fast-growing environment that demands adaptability and resilience. I would argue that no other organization on the planet teaches and instills these two things better than the military. Lastly, the military taught me how to work collaboratively under pressure, remain focused on “the why” in times of adversity, and provided me with the tools necessary to effectively lead a team. Again, things that have been extremely valuable in my professional journey with Frontline Mobile Health. When all is said and done, I am very grateful for the lessons I’ve learned and the person I’ve become because of my time in the Army.
