ATLANTIC CITY — For David Dennis, a chance for the United States to stand up against racism in politics did not come with the election of Barack Obama in 2008 or a chance to elect Kamala Harris in November but 1964 in Atlantic City. What is referred to as Freedom Summer, reached an apex during the Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City with the racially mixed Mississippi Freedom Democrats, led by iconic civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer, were refused seats at the convention in favor of an all-white delegation. Some of those delegates spoke at Stockton University in Atlantic City on Tuesday, Aug. 20 during the 60th anniversary of that tumultuous political convention, to talk about what happened then and the parallels they see in today’s political climate. 60 Students Complete NJ Kids4 Coding Program in Camden by AACCNJ CAMDEN — The African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey announced this week that 60 students from McGraw Elementary School and KIPP Lanning Square Middle School in Camden have successfully completed the NJ Kids4 Coding program. NJ Kids4 Coding, offered by AACCNJ’s Mobile Academy, aims to address educational and technological disparities faced by underserved children by providing them with foundational skills in coding and game design, while also highlighting potential career opportunities in the technology sector.
