Improving Outcomes through Research-Based Innovations

About us

We provide onsite and distance-based training and support to service organizations, schools, and hospitals to optimize processes and outcomes for children and adolescents diagnosed with developmental disabilities who engage in severe problem behavior. Dr. Hanley formed FTF in early 2019 primarily to fulfill the demand for training in practical functional assessment (PFA) and skill-based treatment (SBT) procedures. The company aim is to provide highly effective training and reliable support to professionals attempting to adopt PFA/SBT processes in their practice and to organizations attempting to improve outcomes for the children and young adults they serve who engage in severe problem behavior. Severe Problem Behavior We are experts in assessing and treating severe problem behavior, and skilled in building capacity and confidence in others to do the same. Sleep Problems We build capacity in others to implement an efficient model of assessment and treatment of sleep problems within a three-step process. Stereotypy We are experts in designing effective teaching programs for humanely addressing stereotypy and building capacity in others to do the same. Eating Problems Our approach to assessing and treating eating problems is to provide a relaxed environment in which children are motivated to interact with and eventually eat new and nonpreferred foods. Balance We train organizations in the Balance Program, a home-based, parent- implemented, skill-based approach to preventing the development of severe problem behavior. Preschool Life Skills The Preschool Life Skills (PLS) program is a classroom-based approach to teaching critical social skills to preschoolers to prevent problem behavior from developing or reemerging.

  • Dr. Anthony Cammilleri joined Matt Cicoria from The Behavioral Observations Podcast to discuss his early experiences in Behavior Analysis, his experiences working in Dr. Hanley's lab as a grad student, of course his work collaborating with Dr. Hanley and other colleagues in the founding and development of FTF Behavioral Consulting, the recent news of his migration over to Action Behavior Centers, and what opportunities lie ahead in this partnership. They also had a conservation about IISCA or Practical Functional Assessment, along with Skills-Based Treatment, and how those processes have evolved over the years. FTF appreciates the efforts of Matt Cicoria in disseminating Today's ABA. Please listen to the full episode below: Lessons from Implementing PFA/SBT: Session 276: https://lnkd.in/esqH-sJt

Angela Bryson, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Clinical Supervisor at Community Autism Services, A Stepping Stones Group in Rocklin, California, has been a leader in the field of Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) and Skill-Based Treatment (SBT) since 2020. That year marked a pivotal moment in her career when her company received consultation from Catherine Jessel on implementing PFA-SBT for students engaging in severe problem behavior during center-based instruction. "The success of that initial PFA and treatment ignited a spark in me," Angela recalls. This experience not only reinforced practices she was already passionate about—like creating a reinforcing environment and shaping cooperation—but also led to a broader organizational shift in values and priorities. Now, PFA-SBT is her go-to method. "As the primary supervisor on my cases, I’ve integrated elements of PFA-SBT into all my students’ programs," she says, reflecting on her hands-on role in the implementation process. A significant turning point in Angela's career came when she participated in the Train-the-Trainer cohort with Dr. Egan. This experience not only enhanced her supervision skills but also deepened her commitment to ensuring that clinicians under her guidance are both competent and confident in PFA-SBT implementation. "Dr. Egan modeled how to supervise others in the process, deliver feedback, and collaborate on troubleshooting," Angela shares. She now fosters an open and collaborative environment for her team, encouraging them to discuss challenges and setbacks openly. Within her organization, Angela is an active participant in collaborative meetings where PFA-SBT implementers come together to discuss their processes. She also invites those who reach out to her through the FTF Credentialing Directory to observe her supervision in action. "It’s been rewarding to see others walk away with a deeper understanding of how to incorporate the same values I emphasize in their clinical practice," she notes. However, Angela's path hasn’t been without challenges. She recalls a particularly difficult case where staff struggled to gain cooperation from a student, leading to frustration and ineffective interventions. "It wasn’t until I revisited Universal Protocols that things started to change," Angela explains. She developed a clear scope and sequence for her staff, which led to a dramatic improvement in both the client's behavior and staff morale. "It truly addressed work satisfaction and rapport," she says, reflecting on the positive outcomes. read more here: https://lnkd.in/eF4ymCGs

FTF is pleased to announce the release of its latest on-demand course, A Spanish version of the Tips for Expediting the Skills-Based Treatment Process (1 CEU). FTF would like to thank Ana Mendez-Vides for her extraordinary effort in translating the training materials for this course, bringing FTF closer to its mission of global dissemination of the values and methods of Today's ABA.

Big announcement! Dr. Adithyan (Dithu) Rajaraman will be joining FTF in January! Dithu is a Licensed, Doctoral-level Board Certified Behavior Analyst providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services, conducting research, and teaching for over 15 years. His professional experiences span multiple related domains, including trauma-informed care, neurodiversity-affirming services, practical functional assessments, and choice- and skill-based interventions addressing severe behavior. He has co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on these topics. As an instructor and presenter, he has developed a reputation for distilling complex behavior-analytic concepts and research into accessible, actionable lessons. Dithu teaches in these contexts while blending humility, humor, and tremendous respect for individuals about whom he speaks. Dithu has provided more than 50 invited workshops, talks, and keynote addresses across the globe. This skills and experiences have led to his being positioned as a lead trainer for FTF, providing on-site two-day trainings in practical functional assessment and skill based treatment. We are currently scheduling these trainings, which will start in January 2025.
