Our team is thrilled to see their work come to life with Idaho National Laboratory spotlighting our solid oxide electrolyzer, which can unlock affordable, reliable hydrogen production—cutting costs by up to 30%--when working with nuclear power. Proud to drive innovation in clean hydrogen energy.
In 2020, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) awarded $12.5 million to FuelCell Energy and INL to support a project integrating hydrogen production and nuclear power. FuelCell Energy designed and manufactured a new, ready-to-go modular solid oxide electrolysis system, and recently delivered it to INL's Energy Systems Laboratory for testing and validation. This is the largest solid oxide electrolyzer ever tested at INL and the first fully integrated electrolysis platform demonstrated at INL. 👏 The testing phase is expected to last for about one year, including a variety of tests to measure how efficiently the electrolysis system can split steam into hydrogen.
