Future Link supports first-generation, low-income, high potential young adults with opportunities, resources, knowledge, skills, and personalized support to achieve their education and career goals. Since 2008, Future Link has passionately supported Montgomery County young adults, ages 18-25, through an intensive, highly-individualized model offering mentorships, career coaches, paid internships, scholarships, academic guidance, and marketable job skills.

    Mentors are key to helping Future Link students progress in their education and career goals. Together, Mentors work with their Mentees on time management, educational planning, career exploration, scholarship research, and much more. Steve has been a Mentor with Future Link since 2022 and has worked with three students, each on different paths. He shares about its impact: “Working with Future Link Mentees has allowed me the opportunity to provide support and assistance in life’s challenges including jobs, family, internships, and student life. Future Link students have so much to offer, and it has been an enjoyable learning experience and a privilege to work with them.” We are actively seeking volunteer professionals to mentor our deserving first-generation young adults.     Future Link’s 15th Anniversary Spotlight series features a select few of the countless people and community partners who have contributed to Future Link’s success. After 30+ years at IBM, Ed Barnett came to Future Link in 2018 with a strong desire to give back to his community. Since then, he has worked one-on-one with more than 15 students. Ed wears many hats as a Mentor, Career Coach, and donor. “Future Link is a truly remarkable organization, deeply committed to the success of their students and Mentors.     Future Link’s 15th Anniversary Spotlight series features a select few of the countless people and community partners who have contributed to Future Link’s success. Since 2021, Mentor-Mentee pair Leyla and Nataly have remained focused on Nataly’s goals of completing her degree and finding a job in interior design.    Nataly shares: “Working with Leyla has helped me navigate the path to completing my interior design degree. She helped me balance my workload and was very attentive to my needs. Anytime I had an issue, she was on it by contacting someone who could help.” Leyla found the Mentor experience rewarding and saw firsthand the current challenges of the education and work landscape. “Working with Nataly helped me become a more informed person about the struggles students face in completing their degrees. I was glad to be able to help Nataly deal with some of the obstacles she faced. Recently, Future Link added four new board members with backgrounds in technology and finance, healthcare management, executive recruitment, and bioinformatics.   As former owner and managing director of Sylvan Learning in Reston and Fairfax, VA, a renowned educational institution that offers personalized learning, Ashish Gandhi is passionate about helping students navigate their academic and professional journeys.     Future Link’s 15th Anniversary Spotlight series features a select few of the countless people and community partners who have contributed to Future Link’s success. Jonathan Chu, a tutor since 2022, represents a cadre of over 50 professionals who tutor our students in more than 15 subjects including physics, calculus, English, and financial budgeting.    Jonathan has tutored several students in STEM subjects, including biology and chemistry, a large need area for Future Link students. While Carolina and Ashlei have not been a Mentor-Mentee pair for long, their partnership has already yielded rich conversation, ambitious goal-setting, and increased confidence.    Ashlei shares about her increased growth mindset with Carolina’s support: “I have been working with my Mentor Carolina since September 2023, and I have had an amazing experience thus far. With her help I have been successful in gaining a full-time job, as well as getting a better handle on my finances. Now we are tackling my desires for my education. I could not be happier to continue working with Carolina!”   Carolina shares her pride in Ashlei’s efforts: “Meeting with Ashlei these last few months has been such a fun ride.
