FIA mourns the passing of Sir Brian Williamson, a monumental figure in the development and expansion of global futures markets. Sir Brian brought his experience of trading financial futures in Chicago during the 1970s to the original working team that led to the creation of Liffe in 1982, the first financial futures exchange in Europe. He also founded GNI, a commodities brokerage, in the same year, becoming chairman of the firm and the exchange in 1985. Sir Brian served as chairman of Liffe for a second term from 1998 to 2003, overseeing the exchange’s transition from open outcry to electronic trading, and into a for-profit organisation owned by shareholders. He was knighted for his services to financial markets in 2000. “Sir Brian was a legendary figure for our industry and an inspiration to many,“ said Walt Lukken, President and CEO of FIA. “He was inducted into the FIA Hall of Fame in 2007 and remains one of this industry’s leading lights. Our industry celebrates the impactful life of Sir Brian.” https://lnkd.in/eea_5UQN

Thank you Robbert Booij for the interesting and wide-ranging discussion!
Thank you FIA, Inc. for inviting me at this weeks FIA Forum in Frankfurt. It was great to discuss with Bruce Savage the main challenges and opportunities for the European derivatives industry. We touched upon Eurex proposition for clients facing EMIR 3.0, growth opportunities from our innovative products and access models, to increasing retail access to derivatives enabling effective risk management. Bringing industry participants together to discuss ideas is crucial for advancing our markets and making a positive impact for everyone involved.
