A venture fund, advancing equity through seed-stage participation in minority, women & veteran-led startups.

About us

Welcome to Fuze Fund, where we ignite the potential of early-stage, underrepresented founders by providing them with the resources, capital, and expertise they need to launch their entrepreneurial dreams. As a venture management platform, our mission is to empower veteran-owned, women-owned, and minority-led businesses—those most often overlooked and underfunded in the venture capital landscape. Through access to venture financing, direct investments, and comprehensive support services offered by our community of institutional and non-profit partners, we aim to level the playing field and spark transformative growth. As a General Partner to a suite of Reg-D 506c funds, including our flagship "Fuze Venture Growth Fund I, LP," which has received SEC approval for a $30M exempt offering, Fuze Fund channels significant institutional investments into groundbreaking seed- and early-stage ventures. Our focus spans the information technology, education, and financial services sectors, fostering innovation and disruption. Additionally, we immerse our founders in a vibrant startup ecosystem enriched by institutional partners, non-profit organizations, and fellow entrepreneurs, all working together to nurture each venture towards its fullest potential. *Fuze Venture Growth Fund I is scheduled to enter the subscription phase in Q4 2024.

Advancing equity in education, entrepreneurship, venture investment, and philanthropic giving.

On a Saturday morning in June of 2021, a few friends and I joined a Zoom call to revisit an idea that was birthed during the capstone stage of our MBA studies at the Syracuse University - Martin J. Whitman School of Management. A few years had passed and I was settling into a reset-season, having just completed my doctorate. But we agreed to reconnect to explore what was next. There was only one item on the agenda and it was a question: "DO WE WANT TO LAUNCH A VENTURE CAPITAL FUND?" It had always been a dream of mine, having served entrepreneurs in the non-profit space and observed the disparity in access to capital first hand. But time, capacity, and the subtle doubts associated with whether or not such an undertaking were even possible, seemed overwhelming. Only a fraction of #VCs are Black-owned/Black-managed, matching the less than 1% of total #venture #investment made in #BlackFounders. Still, we talked, assessed the challenges of building a firm during a global pandemic, the nuances of navigating personal and professional uncertainty during COVID... In the end, we pressed pause on moving forward together, though I agreed to take a few steps to sustain our momentum. From research came paperwork, signatures turned into licensing, and on Sept. 21st, 2021, I had registered a $30M Reg-D 506c fund with the SEC. The firm's name: Fuze˖Fund. The idea was and always has been to create room for the communities of founders on the margins of our #startup ecosystem - #veterans, #minorites, and #women. I held this idea for three years, parking the details behind a password protected website, waiting and hoping to reassemble the team. But recently, I could feel a nudge, perhaps a whisper in my subconscious in the tone of my late father's voice (a Pastor), who would often remind me: "God doesn't always call the equipped, sometimes He equips the called." The apprehension began to subside as I receive calls and emails from colleagues I hadn't heard from in years, asking: "T.J., where are you with that idea?" "Did you ever move forward with it?" I finally listened, and on Monday morning, I/we went live with the subscription stage of the fund and all of the resource work that comes along with it. This will be a journey. And it will take time... But so does a #Fuze before it's spark ignites impact! Thanks for reading, and keep dreaming big. 🔥 #FuzeFund

ACCESS TO CAPITAL IS THE CRITICAL NEED FOR VETERAN ENTREPRENEURS: A REMINDER TO INVEST IN THOSE WHO SERVED. (Summarized. An opinion article by Elizabeth Gore, via Inc. Magazine) Elizabeth Gore’s article poignantly highlights the immense challenges faced by #veteran #entrepreneurs in securing the capital necessary to launch and sustain their businesses. Reflecting on her own father’s service and entrepreneurial journey, she underscores the critical need for financial support for veterans and military spouses. With nearly two million #veteranowned small businesses providing jobs to around five million workers, their impact is substantial, yet they face significant hurdles in accessing credit and funding. A survey by Hello Alice revealed that 49 percent of veteran SMBs lack adequate access to credit, and 35 percent cite raising capital as their top challenge. This financial struggle is exacerbated by factors like a lack of credit history due to overseas service and the economic fallout from the pandemic. The Federal Reserve Bank of NY and the SBA report that veteran-owned businesses frequently experience lower approval rates for loans, with 60 percent receiving less funding than requested. Notably, intersectionality plays a role, as 60 percent of surveyed veteran businesses are BIPOC-owned, further intensifying their capital access issues. Organizations like ShoulderUp, Bunker Labs, and Hello Alice are stepping in to provide grants, mentorship, and community support, but the need for direct financial investment remains critical. The call to action is clear: consumers, bankers, and venture capitalists must all step up and support veteran entrepreneurs. At Fuze˖Fund, we echo this sentiment, recognizing the importance of bridging the equity gap by investing in underrepresented founders, including veterans. Our mission aligns with this kind of advocacy, aiming to ignite transformation and drive equitable growth in diverse entrepreneurial ecosystems. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eaRsU5dy. Friends & Colleagues - I'm excited and honored to share that I've been accepted into the U.S. Dept. of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) U.S. Speaker Program! The U.S. Speaker Program collaborates with U.S. embassies and consulates around the world, bringing together professional foreign audiences and American thought leaders, subject matter experts, and scholars to engage on topics of strategic importance to the United States. Programs are conducted in-person as well as virtually, with key policy priorities ranging from cybersecurity and economic prosperity, to climate change, and educational diplomacy. Social entrepreneurship, educational equity, racial and gender disparities in science & technology fields of higher learning, and the power of equitable, venture and philanthropic investment in diverse Founders, are among the issue areas that I'm most excited to contribute to. I look forward to sharing my personal journey through what I invision will be impactful experiences with the U.S. Department of State, as I offer to lend my perspective virtually, here, and (perhaps even) abroad. Visit the Bureau of ECA and the Office of the U.S Program for more information: https://lnkd.in/e-Eyf3PQ.
