East Lake Golf Club has been reimagined just in time for this year's TOUR Championship kicking off August 29th and featuring the top 30 golfers in the world. Andrew Green of AH Green Design has led the course redesign. A few highlights of Andrew's work include using an aerial photograph from 1949 for inspiration in returning many holes on the course back to their original design. Players will be tempted to go for the green in two on a few of the signature Par 5s assuming they've played the perfect approach shot. Greens on No. 2 and No. 17 will incorporate new slopes and feeds not previously experienced while the right side of No. 16 green fill feature a drop off that will test the best in golf. Larry Gellerstedt today welcomed members of the media in anticipation of seeing a sneak peek of the course layout and shared the story of Tom Cousins inviting him to East Lake Golf Club for the very first time many years ago to ask Larry if the old club house could be restored. In the years since the Club has hosted the TOUR Championship the tournament has raised over $54 Million for the community directly surrounding the golf course. According to Tom Cousins he envisioned East Lake being at the center of "Golf With A Purpose". Alex Urban shared how the fan experience continues to grow by announcing new hospitality areas including The Georgian, The Landing and an enhanced first tee viewing area sponsored by NetJets. The Coca-Cola Company continues their fan experience with the addition of the Coca-Cola Cafe. PGA TOUR Superstore, Accenture, and Southern Company continue to provide great fan experiences and engagement. While Atlanta has a lot of options for sports entertainment, TOUR Championship has become one of my favorites. Take a look inside the clubhouse at Bobby Jones' grand slam trophies along with a vintage Bobby Jones Atlanta Magazine cover from 1963 and a photo of Tom Cousins from our archives.
