How can architecture become a vehicle for reflection and change? In this episode of Emerging, Bottom Line: The Art of Winning Architecture Projects, we explore Warm Wishes by Level Studio Architecture PLLC, a stunning response to social and personal upheavals since 2020. Designed by Nancy Nowacek, this 400-square-foot warming hut is more than a shelter—it’s a sanctuary for pause, connection, and transformation. 🏕️ Nestled on the ice in Winnipeg, Canada, as part of the 2021 Warming Huts Competition, the village of furry, anthropomorphic structures invites visitors to reflect on the transitions in their lives, communities, and the world. Crafted from biodegradable materials like jute and grasses, these shelters hug their occupants, offering respite from sound and wind. 📜 Inside, small parcels adorned with printed ribbons encourage a ritual of wishing and release. Visitors write their hopes for change on slips of paper, offering them to a communal warming pit while keeping the ribbon as a keepsake of their moment of introspection. This episode dives into the creative process, material storytelling, and the art of crafting competition-winning proposals. Don’t miss this opportunity to uncover how architecture can nurture both individuals and communities. Please join us in saying hello to Elizabeth Raar, RA, a co-host of the She Builds Podcast! 🎙️ Originally from West Michigan, Lizi is now based in San Francisco, where she thrives as a licensed architect. After earning her degree from School of Architecture at Syracuse University, she gained global experience working in the Netherlands before planting roots in the Bay Area. Lizi has spent nearly a decade designing homes that are both functional and beautiful, all while finding joy in traveling the world, salsa dancing, and baking incredible treats. With her diverse experiences and passion for storytelling, Lizi brings a fresh perspective to She Builds Podcast, where we amplify the voices and stories of women who’ve shaped architecture, construction, and development history—stories too often left out of the spotlight. 🎧 Listen to She Builds Podcast on your favorite platform, and say hi to Lizi in the comments below! https://lnkd.in/dcNZf6Dy #shebuildspodcast #womenwhobuild #architecture #diversityinarchitecture #podcastlaunch
