Through a mixture of real-world examples and theory, this presentation will explore how scandals operate and how we can build through scandals and use them to rebuild a better organizational culture. Centering Student Learning in Campus Jobs This session is a case study of how the Multicultural Center (MCC) at Clackamas Community College is hiring, onboarding, and offboarding student employees differently. Whether you have student workers with very specific job responsibilities, or more ambiguous job responsibilities, this session is for you! In summer 2023 I wanted to change up how I recruited and hired student employees, and find ways for more buy-in from the students and their work. After re-centering the MCC’s mission statement, I created a process for hiring, onboarding, and evaluating students that is mission driven and co-created with students. Specifically this session will cover: 1. How to identify actionable pieces of your department’s mission statement 2. Building individual position descriptions with students 3. Using that position description as their roadmap for work, that in turn becomes their evaluation.

Growth and goals: Thriving in Midlife and Beyond Ageism is real, but there are strategies women can use to foster thriving at any age. Research has shown that higher levels of subjective well-being, happiness and optimism are connected with meaningful goals. The presentation explores the multifaceted dimensions of middle age, examining it as both a mental construct and a chronological stage. An overview of examples of societal depictions of middle age in popular culture and business will also be included. The question “What is middle age” will be reflected on using diverse perspectives from developmental frameworks of Belenky and Erikson and the concepts of growth mindset and grit proposed by Dweck and Duckworth. The objective is to empower women to flourish in middle age through self-assessment, strengths exploration, and setting goals, The outcome of the presentation will be to redefine the potential of middle age and beyond.
