#TIPS #Innovation - How to tell relevant stories This series of TIPS are a recap of some of the best "learn-by-breaking" insights that we've gathered in the last 7 years running innovation labs, workshops and think tanks around #storytelling #innovation #community and #technology >> 1/3 Beware of what you wish for The first rule to get good answer or good projects, in our case, is to make good questions. Initially the premise of our labs was “How can we use tell a story with X technology?” We worked on a great deal of amazing projects - that’s a given, but there was something missing, apart from the fact that it was very hard to make it relevant people who was not already familiar or interested with that technology. And because our goal with GS has always been to make it an open innovation space, where people can use the insights and build on top of them to collectively, that was not working for us. Slowly we realized that we needed to focus on a real why, a real challenge, and then let the potential of new media shine as the best solution to create impactful projects and stories. So instead of asking “How can we use tell a story with X technology?”, we started asking questions more in the line of “How can we make education more accessible and engaging?” Game: Think about 3 different ways of asking someone out. Think about 3 possible answers you can get to each question. Comment or DM! We would love to hear your stories! #dating #technology #storytelling #newmedia #xr #entrepreneurship #innovation #garagestories

Join our next event “StoriesXFuture” a creative hack for curious corporates hosted by NYU Tandon School of Engineering next Tuesday 25th June! Why join? Because innovation does not take place inside a meeting room - come play with us! What to expect? A hands-on experiential program for curious corporates and managers looking for professional and personal inspiration. Join to learn, network, experiment, and create with like-minded people. During the session, we will use creativity and storytelling as tools to inspire, channel, and decode technological, social, and economic trends that are shaping our current reality and constantly creating newly available futures ahead of us. Drafting inspiration from the opening talk, with renowned artist and technologist Carla Gannis, each participant will follow our hands-on methodology to work on a personal project of their choice. We will provide participants with different materials to create a lo-fi prototype. The event will start at 6 and finish at 9 pm, followed by drinks. Full agenda and details here: https://lnkd.in/ec8BjuKk Tickets are $45. Spots are limited and there are a few early-bird tickets!

We all love flowers, let alone flower bouquets. And if there are millions of different kinds of flowers, there are even more kinds of bouquets we can create. A good story is like a flower bouquet crafted with love for someone we care about - that’s what a story should feel like while we select its elements (the 4 P’s): people, places, purpose, and plot. People: Who are the main characters? And the antagonists? Places: When and where does the story take place? Purpose: What’s the goal of the characters? Plot: What triggers the action? Game: What is your favourite movie? Try to think about the different characters / place and time where it takes place / the purpose of the main character and the event that triggers the action. Write down what you find interesting/ relevant of each category and try to break down how it relates to you. Comment or DM! We would love to hear your stories! #flowers #storytelling #newmedia #xr #entrepreneurship #innovation #garagestories Broader vision about our journey into #Storytelling > We started our journey with Garage Stories delving into the unchartered territory of immersive storytelling, a new form of media where there’s not frame and where the relationship between the creator and the audience is completely shifted; the audience is part of the story not just a mere spectator. In this landscape, where there’s no longer a restrictive frame, directing attention becomes an art of ingenuity; one must coax rather than command, for now, every corner is theirs to explore. The first methodological tools we ever designed at Garage Stories, were aimed at crafting strategies to build compelling audience’s journeys inside this new immersive worlds. Little did we fathom that this approach would unveil profound insights into the essence of storytelling itself: your story is never about you, but about your audience, a mirror reflecting their desires and dreams. You have to know it all, but you must only show the pieces that are relevant to your audience, and place them in a way that takes them in a journey  that you’ve carefully planned while keeping the believe that they are making their own choices.

Stories are like coffee. We are like it in different ways, but we all love that barista that knows what we want (rather need if we are talking about coffee) before we ask for it. And of course there’s good coffee, ok coffee and bad coffee, still, the how matters above all. This is good storytelling: tailored to every audience to make it relevant. So how do you know what coffee does your audience need? How do you tailor your story? You make it about them, not you. You understand what is relevant to them. What do they seek ultimately? What are they dreams? What do they want to be when they grow* up? Once you know this, you can pour a coffee exactly as they like it: with milk, sugar and a dash of cacao. Game: Think about a friend or relative. Think about your favourite coffee shop. Think about how would you convince them that they will like that coffee shop. Try not to explain why you loved it and try to put yourself on their shoes, what could they convince them to try it? Comment or DM! The key element to any story is the message. “What do I want to say?” is the first question you should as yourself. What is my message? What emotions/ thoughts do I want to trigger? Even “What do I expect from my audience?” And of course, there’s no guarantee that people will feel/ think exactly what you want, but think about it as a dartboard: you aim for the small circle for the middle, but even if you hit somewhere in the dartboard, you are still getting some points. What is important is to have a dartboard, a clear direction to help you keep consistency and make decisions. Game: Look for one your latest post on Instagram/ Linkedin. Can you tell in one sentence what were you trying to communicate? (With words, images or both). Now, can you identify sub-messages by order of importance? Comment or DM! #SPACESTORIES 🚀🚀🚀 March 28th we were at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory to present the winning team of #SPACESTORIES with Isaac Berman and Juana Medina, an ARG game "Message in a Bottle" geared towards fostering skills to better understand NASA's data to active collective action. #SpaceStories was born as a collaboration between Garage Stories and the amazing team at JPL's StoryLab Paul Propster Preston Dyches David Levine, principal scientists Josh Willis, and the Earth Comms Lead Jon Mikel Walton. The goal of Space Stories, a creatives think tank, was to explore new storytelling approaches to Sea Level Rise, or in other words; how to turn scientific #data graphs about sea levels into an engaging and educative experience to build community. The incubator took place in November 2023, when we brought together 30 creatives across the USA to work in teams to come up with innovative storytelling ideas. It has been an amazing journey, and a reinforcement of the power of storytelling to drive positive change. We can wait for more stories to be co-created! Stay tuned... 🍾 #nasa #data #space #spacestories #EarthExploration #GarageStories
