It was a beautiful, early spring Saturday for Gather's Culinary Director Tania Marino to receive the "Impact Free Jack" Outstanding Community Honoree Award at the New England Free Jacks®' Heritage Cup rugby game and St. Paddy's Day Celebration. Tania was recognized in front of an enthusiastic crowd for her work launching and leading Gather's Seacoast Waste Not Coalition, which diverts edible, excess food from regional food service industry partners and repurposes it into nutritious, prepared meals for those we serve. The Coalition has already recovered over 80,000 pounds of food in less than a year through 42 partnerships, with plans to scale. This helps Gather to meet rising hunger needs while also reducing the environmental pollution caused by food waste. It's great to see Tania's culinary and rugby lives come together! The "Impact Free Jack" award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities throughout the 2025 season. #newengland #freejacks #newenglandnonprofits #newhampshirelife

Ending local hunger through innovation, collaboration & leadership.
About us
For 200 years, Gather has been serving Seacoast residents facing hunger. The agency was founded in 1816 by a small group of women committed to feeding the families of fishermen. Today, Gather is committed to ending local hunger through collaboration and leadership. Gather serves those in our community experiencing hunger by providing nutritious food through innovative distribution programs and our Pantry Market. We offer nutrition education and recipes for healthy living. We collaborate with community partners to address the root causes of hunger throughout the Seacoast in NH and ME. Gather's focus on streamlined internal systems, processes and controls ensures that every dollar donated has a big impact on hunger. 90¢ of every dollar donated to Gather goes directly toward local hunger relief.

Although Gather does not directly receive federal funding, 15% of our food donations are from federal programs managed by the New Hampshire Food Bank. With new cuts to those programs, other social service benefits, and tariffs on food imports, our team anticipates more residents accessing our services. We are committed to our open-door policy for residents who live or work in New Hampshire or Maine. There are many avenues to support Gather through sharing resources, volunteerism, advocacy, and financial support. You can find out more by contacting Gather at: Phone: 603-436-0641 Email: info@gathernh.org Check out Seacoast Online's article to find out more about the implications of these cuts: https://lnkd.in/eyHnS9Bw #foodinsecurity #NHcommunity #NewHampshire #foodaccess #nonprofit #federalfundingcuts

Gather reposted this
Gather is aware of how proposed cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) could impact New Hampshire residents. Our expanded Community Food Center location with its larger warehouse and pantry market will ensure that we can take in and distribute more food more efficiently to more people than ever before. #foodaccess #SNAP #NewHampshire
Proposed cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) could include elimination of the 2021 update to the Thrifty Food Plan – a model used to determine SNAP benefits. #Research shows that if this plan update is rolled back, #SNAP benefits will fail to cover the cost of a modestly priced meal in every county in the US. How would SNAP benefit cuts affect your community? A new Urban tool provides #data on the effects of eliminating the 2021 update to the Thrifty Food Plan for every state and county in the US. Thank you to our longtime partners Irving Oil for their continued support of our mission! With their Irving gift cards, we are able to fuel our trucks so we can bring and distribute food to communities in need across the Seacoast through our Mobile Markets, Fresh Food Bus, and Meals 4 Kids initiatives. #communitypartnerships #foodaccess #fooddistribution #nonprofits

A huge thank you to Lighthouse Credit Union and the Lighthouse Credit Union Foundation for donating a truck's worth of office furniture to Gather, which our team will use in our new Community Food Center location at 124 Heritage Avenue in Portsmouth. Both Lighthouse and Gather are moving to new locations in 2025, which presented a timely corporate/nonprofit partnership opportunity to recycle and reuse furniture! The selection of standing desks, office chairs, cabinets, and conference tables is a great cost-savings for Gather as we expand our physical footprint. #corporatesocialresponsibility #NHpartnerships #NHnonprofits

Volunteers make the world go 'round! We depend upon 40-50 volunteers daily across our programs. Our corporate groups alleviate the big lift of sorting through each and every food donation that we receive by: - Organizing items by expiration date to inform when, what, and where we distribute our food. - Categorizing and stacking donated items into food categories for easier storage. Thanks to enthusiastic and willing teams from Impax Asset Management, Sullivan Construction, LLC, and PrimeAsia Leather Company for volunteering in February!

Gather's Director of Development and Communications, Patte-Anne Ardizzoni, spent a recent afternoon sharing Gather's work with Martin's Point Health Care staff. At the end of her talk, they presented her with a generous donation to support our mission! We are grateful to have such a caring community. #newhampshire #nhnonprofits #nhcompanies
