Gather
Technology, Information and Internet
Bring the best of in-person collaboration to distributed teams.
About us
Gather gives distributed teams a virtual office, a place where you can collaborate like you're in person. In addition to video calls and chat, you can stop by someone's digital desk or wave people over to join conversations in real time. It's a way to bring back natural communication to the overly scheduled life of remote work.

I always felt something off with remote collaboration. Our designers were working together, but it didn’t feel *effortless.* - Slack messages felt impersonal. - Scheduled calls felt too structured for brainstorming. - Async communication starting becoming the norm. We needed a space that felt more natural. That’s when we switched to Gather as our virtual office. Now, dropping by a teammate’s desk takes seconds. Ideas flow without the friction of scheduling meetings. Feedback happens in real time, just like in a physical office. The result? - Faster iteration cycles. - Higher-quality design work. - A stronger, more connected team. And most importantly—happier clients. Going into 2025, this was one of the best decisions we made.

How do you build a flexible and effective remote working environment? 🌍💻 Working remotely offers great flexibility, but it can sometimes feel isolating. Spontaneous conversations, quick questions, and the social energy of an office can be harder to maintain when your team is spread across multiple locations. Sounds familiar? At JS World Media, we’ve found a way to bridge the gap between remote and in-office work. We use Gather, a virtual workspace that enables us to collaborate as if we were sitting next to each other in the office. With Gather, everyone has their own virtual workstation, making it easy to “drop by” a colleague’s desk—just like in a physical office. Need a quick chat or want to host a presentation? Simply walk over to a teammate in the virtual space or join one of the designated meeting rooms. ✨ 4 benefits of Gather: ✔️ Effortless communication – No need to schedule a meeting for every small question. Just walk up and start a conversation when you see your colleague is available! ✔️ A stronger team spirit – The interactive, game-like environment makes remote work more engaging and social. ✔️ Structured workdays – Dedicated meeting rooms and workspaces create a productive setup. ✔️ Flexibility and efficiency – Ideal for quick check-ins, presentations, and teamwork across locations. 🔎 Check out how two of our amazing colleagues from JS Deutschland GmbH and JS Danmark describe the benefits of working on Gather! #RemoteWork #HybridWork #VirtualOffice #Collaboration

When I first met Gabe Middleton in 2023, I was struck by how thoughtfully he approached workplace culture. His team at Human-I-T faced the challenges many distributed teams encounter—siloed communication, slow decision-making, and a lack of connection. But instead of accepting it or forcing RTO plans, Gabe took a different path. He personally created Human-I-T’s first Gather office to try a new way of working. Three days after creating it, they had 50 members of their team working in Gather. A year later, their virtual office now houses their entire global workforce. Gabe has shared stories of how quickly they’ve been able to collaborate, how much more connected they feel, and how Gather has allowed them to rebuild their previous in-person culture. Our mission with Gather is to empower distributed teams to build the culture they’ve always wanted. I’ve been honored to see this come to fruition for Human-I-T, and am so grateful to Gabe for sharing your story with us. Give it a watch or read! I’ll link the full story in the comments.

People love to ask about Gather's origin story, but I love to talk about the moments when Gather got "refounded" as a company. It happened once when we went after this crazy vision of the Metaverse at the start of the pandemic, and again, over the last couple years, with a refocusing of the mission on making remote work excellent, and a rebuilding of the entire team to get there. Jinen Kamdar, our Chief Product Officer, has been a lynchpin in refounding this company, and for that reason, Mohammed Kumail Jaffer and I are excited to name him a co-founder of Gather. We first met Jinen 3 years ago, and from the very first week, he was changing Gather in big ways. He helped us realize what it’d take to actually become a successful work product, and made some big bets on the product that ended up being totally correct, but which the rest of us didn’t have the conviction to make. He also played a huge part in defining the culture we have today centered around hunger and excellence in craft. These values are now strongly embraced by every member of our team, make Gather the most energizing to work at than ever before, and will likely be the pillars of our organization for many years to come. As we’ve gotten to work with Jinen more, Kumail and I have felt he possesses the intangibles that make him a cofounder rather than just a successful, hired executive. He believes in our mission with every fiber of his being. So much so that I’ve found myself inspired by our own mission in ways I didn’t know possible, given how he frames it. Looking towards the future, he shares my hope to work on this mission for 10+ more years, if not to be the last jobs of our careers. On a personal side, this has been incredibly meaningful for Kumail and I. From the beginning, our hope was to create an organization that was much larger than the two of us, and that we could find other people who would be equal stewards in our shared purpose. We’re very lucky to have found that in Jinen. And looking forward, we hope to find more and more talented people to take ownership in our cause. To our customers, both current and future. Please know that our team is working extremely hard on a next generation version of the product that we believe will solve the largest issues we hear from you all. The current product is unfinished, and there’s a ton more to improve. Stay tuned!
